The Most Exciting Marvel Announcements from D23 Expo 2022

In the Studio Showcase for Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige announced new titles as well as giving the audience sneak peeks at trailers and footage. Take a look at all the Marvel updates from D23 Expo 2022!

2022 D23 Expo Marvel Announcements

First of all, the audience was treated, and I mean TREATED to a performance of Rogers the Musical! Remember in Hawkeye on Disney+ Clint Barton and his kids were watching a Broadway musical called Rogers the Musical? Well the original song created for Hawkeye was performed for the entire audience. I died. It’s my dream that they bring it to The Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure, but I digress.

Let’s get to the Marvel announcements from D23 Expo!

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Ryan Coogler came on stage and showed us footage from Wakanda Forever. In the clip, it seems like now that T’Challa is dead, different governements are coming after the vibranium. But watch out, because they may think Wakanda is vulnerable, but the Dora Milaje is ready to fight. And those women look bada**! Black Panther: Wakanda Forever looks like the best Marvel movie in Phase 4 of the MCU. It’s also the end of Phase 4.

Dominique Thorne returns as Riri Williams, a young, genius inventor determined to make her mark on the world.  Ironheart delves into the dynamics of tech versus magic. Kevin Feige invited Anthony Ramos to the stage to greet fans and share a little about his character, Parker Robbins aka The Hood. Ironheart will debut on Disney+ in 2023!

Werewolf by Night

WEREWOLF BY NIGHT is a trip, y’all. It’s for all you creepy Twilight Zone lovers. Director Michael Giacchino joined Feige on stage alongside stars Gael García Bernal and Laura Donnelly to give fans new details and the first trailer for the upcoming special that Feige called “fun-scary.” Check out the Werewolf by Night Tailer below.

Secret Invasion

SECRET INVASION launches on Disney+ in 2023. Don Cheadle came out on stage and will reprise his role of Colonel James Rhodes.  Other cast members include Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos.

New cast members of Secret Invasion include Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Fans were shown a scene and the brand-new trailer from the event series that showcases a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years. And Nicky fury was not happy about it.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania stars Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp) and Jonathan Majors (Kang)! They came on stage to screaming fans to show the audience a clip from the new film. In the clip we learned that Cassie, Scott’s daughter, has been working on science with Hank Pym regarding the Quantum Realm. However, they accidentally open a portal and we see Scott and Cassie get sucked in.

Loki Season 2

Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino and Ke Huy Quan made a quick visit from filming Loki Season 2 in the UK to D23 Expo! The fans went wild to see Quan added to the cast. Exclusive footage of Loki season 2 featuring Loki being sent across multiple branch realities, Kevin Feige suggested that Loki will have more multiverses than Doctor Strange 2

Fantastic Four

Matt Shakman was confirmed to be the director of Fantastic Four, but there wasn’t really any other news regarding the film. That presentation was really short, but got many cheers from the crowd! The film opens in theaters on Nov. 8, 2024.

Cast members from ECHO included Alaqua Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Devery Jacobs, Graham Greene, Cody Lightning and Chaske Spencer who visited the stage in Hall D23. The last time we saw Maya Lopez was in Hawkeye, after she shot Kingpin. However, he’s back! Maya’s behavior catches up with her in her hometown, and we saw some footage. The audience applauded in sign language! This show will be great for representation in the deaf community. I can’t wait!

Daredevil: Born Again

Speaking of Vincent D’Onofrio… he was on stage and then when Charlie Cox came out…whew! The crowd (including myself) went crazy! Daredevil: Born Again will feature 18 episodes! However, production hasn’t started yet, so fans were able to watch a clip from an upcoming episode of She Hulk: Attorney at Law -now streaming on Disney+ – that features him. It was a good one!

Captain America: New World Order

New Captain America, Sam Wilson, will headline Captain America: New World Order. Director Julius Onah joined Feige on stage. Together, they welcomed The Falcon and The Winter Soldier returning stars Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres) and Carl Lumbly (Isaiah Bradley). They join new cast members Tim Blake Nelson (The Leader), as well as Shira Haas (Sabra). Captain America: New World Order will be in theaters on May 3, 2024.

Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster) and Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova) couldn’t be there, but Pugh recorded a greeting for the D23 Expo audience. And I died. I love Yelena so much, and am most excited for Thunderbolts opening in theaters on July 26, 2024.

The Marvels

They saved the girl power for last! The Marvels will feature Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel joining forces with Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau’s Spectrum. Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel), whom I adore, was geeking out, and it was so fun! Fans got to see some exclusive footage.  The Marvels opens in theaters on July 28, 2023.

Well Marvel fans, we have plenty to look forward to! Next year Phase 5 of the MCU begins! If you have kids, then check out the most kid friendly Marvel movies to start with if you haven’t already!
