“What’s our family theme for our Halloween costumes this year?” A question my kids start asking in August. This is why I have many DIY Halloween costumes – to help families and show them Halloween costumes don’t need to be complicated or expensive. With this easy DIY Scuba Diver costume, you can add a whole family of divers on a budget and use things you probably have around the house. Check out this Scuba Diver costume tutorial.
Easy DIY Scuba Diver Costume
Some store bought costumes are awesome, I’ll admit it. But the costumes that are homemade are even awesomer. When we have a family Halloween costume theme that’s DIY, the kids all pitch in and we get crafty together. The key is it doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Enter Scuba Steve costumes.
The great thing about this scuba diver costume is you can make it as colorful, decorative, elaborate, or simple as you want. You could make it in 30 minutes if you have the materials.
DIY Scuba Diver Costume Materials
You’ll need:
Black clothing – pants and shirt
Goggles or Scuba/Snorkel mask
Duck Tape – color of your choosing
Black Electrical Tape
Two empty 2-liter soda bottles
Glue or Glue Gun
Rope/Cord
How to Make a Scuba Diver Halloween Costume
First, set aside your black clothing.
Next, make your scuba tanks. Make sure your 2-liter soda bottles are empty, rinsed out, and dry. You can decorate them however you like. Bright colors? Sure! Paint or Duck Tape? Whichever you choose!
We went with a classic gray Duck Tape look. We just wrapped the duck Tape around in layers.
My girls would probably prefer colored Duck Tape. Next use the black electrical tape and wrap it around each bottle to look like a scuba tank. We usually have Duck Tape around, so I just cut that in half instead of using electrical tape.
Next, glue the bottle together. I like using a hot glue gun, because it holds better, but you can also tape the back for reinforcements. It doesn’t have to look pretty. That’s why I like the back, so it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Then take your rope or cord and glue it to the top and bottom of your bottles. I used some hot glue and then also reinforced it with tape. Ta-da! Your scuba pack is complete!
Put on those black clothes and add goggles, scuba accessories, or anything else you’d like! I added a giant fish 🙂
