Roundup Rodeo BBQ Review 2023 – Worth the Money?

Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Toy Story Land is the newest Disney World restaurant to open. The restaurant’s Toy Story theme is cute, the food is ok, and the price is relatively expensive. Is Roundup Rodeo BBQ worth it? It’s an expensive meal for ambiance, but for Toy Story fans, it may be one of a kind.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ Review: Is it Worth It?

Roundup Rodeo BBQ is located in Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You need advanced dining reservations, and it costs $45 per adult and $25 per child (ages 3-9) to eat at Roundup Rodeo BBQ in 2023.

Is Roundup Rodeo BBQ a character meal? No, it’s not, and that’s probably the biggest mistake. You don’t even have to go full character meal, even  if you had Woody and Jessie walking around, that would add to the value. It’s just hard to justify the expense with the quality of the food.

For almost $50 a person, Roundup Rodeo BBQ is not worth it for may family due to no characters and lack of food quality.

The Menu at Roundup Rodeo BBQ

First, you start with The Prospector’s Homemade Cheddar Biscuits with Sweet Pepper Jelly. The biscuits and the jelly are good. Nothing I’d be dying to have again, but certainly good enough for me to eat 2.

Then the table is served 3 different salads. One is really a bowl of watermelon, another is a kale salad that is fine, and another is a tomato salad that is ok if you like tomatoes.

You also have the option of choosing a meat platter or a plant-based trio. The meat platter includes smoked ribs, beef brisket, pork sausage, and bbq chicken.

None of the meats were particularly noteworthy. The general consensus at our table was that the chicken was the best. And it’s just normal bbq chicken. They do provide three different BBQ sauces at the table for you to season your meats.

The plant-based trio includes some cauliflower, bratwurst, and a rib chop. We chose the meats.

When ordering, your table will also select 4 sides from 8 different options.  Our table chose the married spuds (tater tots), fried pickles, mac & cheese, and corn. There is also baked beans, veggie slaw, potato salad, and roasted vegetables. Um, yes, we basically chose the carbs.

The fried pickles were different than other ones I’ve tried as they fried the spears. They were pretty good, but there’s no sauce to dip them in if that’s your thing. We asked if they had ranch, and they said they didn’t.

The grilled street corn was pretty good and was probably the best side offered at Roundup Rodeo BBQ. It is heavily seasoned, so it can get messy to eat.

The theming is also cute as you eat on “paper plates.” The plates are not paper, but they look just like it to give you that backyard bbq feel.

And now to the desserts! Each guest can choose one small dessert from the menu.

The Forky Cupcake is the cutest, but it’s pretty bland. This might be a good choice for kids who just want chocolate cake.

Our server recommended the peach strawberry pie, and again, it was fine. I probably should have chosen the chocolate pie instead. A couple friends had the lemon and blueberry cheesecake and said it was really good, but it was also tart. I’m just not a huge lemon fan.

Are There Characters At Roundup Rodeo BBQ?

Although the restaurant is Toy Story themed, there are no Disney characters or Toy Story characters at Roundup Rodeo BBQ. It is not a character meal.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ Characters

The atmosphere is very fun and you feel like you’re in Toy Story. However, there are different rooms, and we were sat in a corner, so I didn’t really feel the ambiance as much.

During the meal, some of the servers dance. And then there’s a bit when the lights go low and you can hear Andy’s voice, and they say, “Andy’s coming” and everyone freezes. So they do try to liven it up and make it different than a regular restaurant.

Is Roundup Rodeo BBQ Worth The Price?

I don’t think Roundup Rodeo BBQ is worth it based on food alone. It’s expensive for the quality, but if you have big Toy Story fans, then it may be worth it for the ambiance. The restaurant is very themed and fun, but you can also get that vibe walking through the queue at Toy Story Mania.

If you really know BBQ, then the food is meh. If you are an average theme park foodie, then you’ll find enough to eat to leave full. There’s just nothing that is spectacular food-wise. However, I do have friends that really loved this restaurant, so maybe we just have different taste buds or it was an off day.

Again, nothing was awful. There’s plenty of food and plenty of choices, so you won’t leave hungry. It’s just hard to say it’s $45 a person fun. If it was a character meal, then the argument could be made.

Take a look at the menu and decide whether Roundup Rodeo BBQ is worth it for your family.
