Wondering if Red Notice is ok for kids? Red Notice is rated PG-13 for language, sexual jokes, and violence. Is Red Notice kid friendly? Not really. If Ryan Reynolds is in a movie, then you can usually find crude jokes and language. Here’s what parents need to know in this Red Notice Parents Guide.
Red Notice Parents Guide
When an Interpol-issued Red Notice, the highest level warrant to hunt and capture the world’s most wanted goes out, the FBI’s top profiler John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson) is on the case. He’s forced to partner with the world’s (2nd) greatest art thief Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds) in order to catch the world’s most wanted art thief, “The Bishop” (Gal Gadot).
Why is Red Notice Rated PG-13?
Red Notice is rated PG-13 for violence and action, sexual references, and strong language according to the MPAA which means it may not be suitable for children under 13. Due to the sexual jokes, I wouldn’t recommend it for the tween crowd.
Language
There is quite a bit of language in Red Notice including many uses of sh*t, a**, a**hole, bit*h, bastard and one use of the f-word. Words like penis and d*ck (dipd*ck), and words of Deity like Jesus, g-d, and g-ddamnit are also used.
Mature Content
There are some sexual jokes including one about a three-way, masturbation, and sending a video of someone’s mom mouth-sexing a goat. Other jokes include sexual innuendos and random jokes about penises. There is a prison shower scene where you see shirtless men and also a naked butt in the background.
Violence is present, but not over-the-top. Most is used for comedic purposes. It’s a typical action movie with hand-to-hand combat, shootouts, you see someone strangled. There are explosions, fires, people punched in the face, someone’s face is burned. There is some prison violence.
There is mention of suicide.
Characters drink alcohol.
The main characters all have “daddy issues.”
Is Red Notice Appropriate for Kids Under 13?
Red Notice is about as entertaining as what you would expect from a film with Reynolds, Gadot, and The Rock as the leads. You have plenty of star power, but unfortunately no script to utilize their strengths. Teens will probably like it, because it’s an action film that doesn’t require a whole lot of thinking. That’s not a knock on teens; sometimes it’s a good break to watch trash TV or trash films, aka a guilty pleasure.
Having to rely on crude jokes or even obvious jokes for laughs instead of witty banter that we all know these actors are capable of is disappointing, but for a Netflix film, it’s enough. Red Notice could have been worse for kids, so I do appreciate them not going the R-rated route. I wouldn’t spend money to see it in a theater, but it’s a good Netflix flick.
Reynolds and Johnson have chemistry, but sometimes Reynolds is too much. He has the same character trope as the sarcastic funny guy, but even I got tired of it. I’d rather watch him in Free Guy. Red Notice is your typical action comedy, and if that’s what you need, then you could be satisfied. Red Notice is enough to entertain. However, I was wanting something a little more clever, especially since I’m such a fan of all three main actors.

NO! My 15 year old came home from school saying he wanted to watch this movie. It is not a family friendly movie. I was looking forward to a family friendly movie since it was PG13. It should be rated R on language and sexual innuendos in my opinion.
