Wondering if Die Hard is ok for kids? If you watch an unedited version, just be aware that Die Hard is rated R for strong language, some nudity, and violence and is not appropriate for kids. Here’s what parents need to know in this Die Hard Parents Guide.
Die Hard Parents Guide
New York City policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) is visiting his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) and two daughters on Christmas Eve. He joins her at a holiday party (thus the argument that it’s a Christmas movie) in the headquarters of the Japanese-owned business she works for. However a group of terrorists take over the high-rise and everyone in it during the party. McClane realizes that there’s no one to save the hostages but him.
Age Rating: Why is Die Hard Rated R?
Die Hard is rated R for violence, some nudity, and strong language which means some content may not be appropriate for kids under 17.
Language in Die Hard
If you’ve seen Die Hard on television, then mostly some of the language is edited. If you’re watching unedited then expect over 50 uses of the f-word, 35 uses of sh**, about 30 uses of some form of a** and a**hole, b**ch, bastard and d*ckhead. There are also uses of g-d, Jesus, and g-ddamn.
Mature Content: Is Die Hard Ok for Kids?
There is some female nudity with a woman’s breasts shown as she is running out of a room. Also, posters show women’s breasts.
There are a lot of fights, gun shots, and explosions. A character is shot in the head. Many characters die and blood is shown. One character is repeatedly punched. A character is hung by the neck. A man is shown falling out of a building.
Innocent people are held hostage and are fearful.
Characters drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes and cocaine use is implied.
Is Die Hard Appropriate for Kids Under 16?
If you want to watch an action movie that many people seem to love, then I suggest watching a TV version of Die Hard. If not, I’d recommend Die Hard for adults and not for kids under 18 years old.
However, if you think your child can handle the language, action, and brief nudity, then Die Hard is kid friendly for ages 16 and older. Bruce Willis is a great action star and this is peak Bruce Willis.
Die Hard is a holiday classic for some families. I personally would not list it under the Christmas movie section, but I know many people who do, so whatever floats your holiday boat! It did make this best Christmas movies for teens list.
