It’s Father’s Day, time to celebrate your favorite dad, male, or father figure. Some dads like to watch sports, others prefer movies. If you’re looking for Father’s Day movies to watch with kids and teens, check out some of these Fathers Day faves.
List of Best Father’s Day Movies For Kids and Teens
This Father’s Day movie list celebrates some of the best dads around. It doesn’t necessarily have movies specifically about Father’s Day, but they have great role models and father figures. Some of these Father’s Day movies are kid-friendly and others are teen-friendly.
Finding Nemo
Who can deny that Marlin loves Nemo? This Disney Pixar film has a lot of heart and a lot of laughs and is great for all ages! Marlin has sadly lost his wife and other kids and has Nemo left. He wants to protect him at all costs, but Nemo runs off on an adventure trying to prove he’s not as little as his dad thinks.
Warning, there is a typical parent death, so that may be sad for some children.
Cheaper By the Dozen
I’m pretty sure this list will include a lot of movies with Steve Martin playing a father. He’s so darn good and funny. Cheaper By the Dozen is about Tom Baker (Martin), a football coach at a small rural college in Midland, Indiana, where he raised twelve children, and his wife, Kate (Bonnie Hunt), has written about her story in a book and hopes to send it to her friend to publish it. Tom unexpectedly gets a job offer somewhere else and moves the family, and the kids are unhappy about it.
This is a great film for tweens, too, as it has some favorite old Disney Channel starts in it. My kids never grow tired of it, and it shows that family is the most important thing.
Onward
Onward is a tear jerker and is about two brothers, Ian and Barley, who through a magic spell can spend one last day with their father who has passed away. However, the spell goes wrong and only half of their dad comes back. This film shows that it;s not only biological dads that are fathers.
Mrs. Doubtfire
This movie is for kids who are a little older. Rated PG-13, there is some language and mature content. After a bitter divorce, Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams), hatches an elaborate plan to spend more time with his kids. He dresses up as a British nanny and convinces his ex-wife (Sally Field) to hire him.
Robin Williams is hilarious, and I always love to see him in anything.
Father of the Bride
This is another classic starring Steve Martin. Although Father of the Bride is rated PG, it’s old-school PG, which means it should also be reserved for older children and teens. Some of the conversations are mature and the language colorful.
George Banks (Steve Martin) and his wife, Nina (Diane Keaton), are the proud parents of Annie (Kimberly Williams), but when she returns from studying abroad and announces that she’s engaged, their whole world turns upside down, especially that of overprotective George. George does not get along so much with an over-the-top wedding planner (Martin Short) and George can just see the dollars adding up.
Ant-Man
And because it’s me, I have to include a Marvel film in this Father’s Day movie list. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) hasn’t always been the best father, but he’s determined to make a fresh start after jail for his daughter Cassie. Little does he know, Hank Pym, has been scouting him to be Ant-Man.
Ant-Man is in my top five Marvel films, but it does have a lot of language in it. So maybe save it for ages 12 and up.
Three Men and a Baby
A classic I used to watch when I was a teen. This one’s probably best for the teen crowd as there are some adult conversations and not a whole lot of interest for younger kids. Three Men and a Baby is rated PG, but it should be rated PG-13.
Cheaper By the Dozen (2022)
There’s a newer Cheaper By the Dozen with a twist. This one’s cute, too, and the little actors are so funny! Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff star in this one as the parents of a blended family of who must navigate a hectic home life while also running the family business. Cheaper By the Dozen is rated PG and can be streamed on Disney+.
