Is Tom & Jerry The Movie Kid Friendly? Parents Guide

Wondering if Tom & Jerry The Movie is ok for kids? Rated PG for rude humor and violence, Tom & Jerry may not be for everyone, especially the Tom & Jerry purists. A combo of animation and live-action, it’s not the cartoon from Saturday mornings of old. Even back in the day, Tom & Jerry was too violent for some. Here’s what parents need to know in this Tom & Jerry The Movie Parents Guide.

Is Tom and Jerry Movie kid friendly?

Is Tom & Jerry The Movie Kid Friendly?

Tom & Jerry The Movie (2021) is a mixture of animation and live-action. Essentially animated Tom and Jerry are living in a live-action world. Kayla (Chloe Grace Moretz) has just talked her in way into a sweet job at a fancy hotel in Manhattan. However, the wedding of the year is about to take place there, and there’s a mouse problem -Jerry. Kayla wants Tom to get rid of him. Tom & Jerry engage in shenanigans and the hijinks ensue.

Is Tom & Jerry kid friendly? If you’re used to the cartoons, yes. The cartoons were always kinda of violent and you can expect some of the same antics from the Tom & Jerry movie. However, now add in some live-action violence.

Why is Tom & Jerry rated PG? Parents should know Tom & Jerry does contain rude and potty humor and some violence.

Is Tom & Jerry The Movie Appropriate for Kids Under 8?

I would recommend Tom & Jerry for kids ages 8 and up. You could go younger, because some kids will find the chase scenes and the physical comedy hilarious. However, those kids sensitive to animals being hurt who aren’t used to the cartoon may not like watching Tom take the brunt of the fighting.

However, Tom & Jerry didn’t feel like the main characters. Their story felt secondary while the wedding and Kayla keeping her job were the major plots, which is a miss.

Not to say the other characters weren’t good, because some of my favorites – Michael Peña, Colin Jost, and Ken Jeong are in the film. They added some laughs, but they weren’t utilized to their full potential. A lot of the screenplay fell flat.

Some fans will like the mix of the cartoon and live-action, but those looking for nostalgic Tom & Jerry aren’t going to find it here. But there aren’t very many family-friendly movies coming out, so I’d watch this with the fam. If your expectations are set low, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Otherwise stick to Finding ‘Ohana and Flora & Ulysses
