Wondering if Outside the Wire on Netflix is ok for kids? Rated R for strong violence and language, Outside the Wire is not kid friendly. A movie about war, there are plenty of scenes that could cause distress for some kids and teens. Here’s what parents need to know in this Outside the Wire Parents Guide.
Outside the Wire Parents Guide
Outside the Wire takes place in 2036. A drone pilot, Lieutenant Harp (Damson Idris), is sent into a war zone, disobeys orders and finds himself paired with a top-secret android officer, Captain Leo (Anthony Mackie), on a mission to stop a nuclear attack. The story is not that interesting, but there’s a lot of action, though it takes a while to see the kind of fighting an android can do.
Here’s a breakdown of why Outside the Wire is rated R. And no, it’s not nudity or sexual content, thank goodness.
Language
There is a so much profanity in Outside the Wire including sh**, bit*h, a**holes, hell, and fu**. At least 75+ uses of bad language. There is also uses of deity like “oh my g-d” and Jesus Christ.
Mature Content
Outside the Wire is laden with violence. There is civil war in Eastern Europe, and there are plenty of battle scenes. They include people being beaten, killed, shot and blown up. There are explosions, dead bodies, people thrown off buildings and tortured, stabbings, you name it. Some scenes are very difficult to watch.
There is talk of infidelity.
Is Outside the Wire Appropriate for Kids Under 16?
There are definitely good lessons to be learned in Outside the Wire, especially about war, but sometimes they are full of cliches. “Humans could learn to do better.” Yup, got it. I don’t disagree.
Because of all the violence and profanity, I would recommend for Outside the Wire for ages 16 and older, but I would even play it safe with keeping it as a film for adults. If your teen likes movies about military and war, then they’ll probably enjoy this one.
Parts are slow, so it may not hold everyone’s interests. Mackie and Idris are great in the film, and it’s a shame more of that doesn’t resonate. I prefer Mackie as Falcon in the Avengers films. There’s just too much junk to wade through to get to the good parts of Outside the Wire.
