No, That Marvel Tweet Did Not Get Simu Liu His Shang-Chi Role

If you’re a Marvel fan, then you’ve seen that tweet. In fact, there were many tweet where Simu Liu had tweeted Marvel about being an Asian superhero. In the Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings press conference, Kevin Feige debunks that myth and said he hadn’t seen that tweet before Simu was cast.

Shang Chi Press Conference

The first tweet dates back to 2014!

Then we have this one…

And then we basically have the confirmation.

Journalist Warren Thompson from The Cosmic Wonder asked “So, Simu, it seems like you seemingly got this role by tweeting at Marvel Studios in the beginning. Was this real? Is that what go you on Feige’s radar or were you in talks before then?”

Luckily, we had Kevin Feige and Simu Liu together to get the real scoop.

Simu replied, “I would love for Kevin to answer this because you think when you tweet at Marvel, you think it’s going to some 19-year-old intern with acne and…”

Kevin said he never saw those tweets. “Unfortunately, Simu, it was not your tweeting. It was your acting ability, your constant professionalism, and then multiple reads and meetings that you did that got you the job.”

Do we believe him, folks? Yes, I think 100% that ultimately Simu Liu got the job due to his incredible acting skills. But really not one intern showed Kevin Feige those tweets? It’s hard to believe.

But no, it was not the tweets that got Simu Liu his role as Shang-Chi!

Feige also couldn’t guarantee that the casting director didn’t see those tweets, but Director Destin Cretton said he thinks the universe saw them. So, don’t give up those big dreams, kids. You never know what the universe can do for you.

Simu added, “Speak it into the universe and it will find a way.”

Then fellow cast member, Ronny Chieng, and also moderator of the press junket quipped, “I think just be super talented and good looking as well and everything happens.”

Those are life lessons.

The chemistry and friendship amongst the cast is what really makes Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings phenomenal as well as the action and funny Shang-Chi quotes
