Nightbooks on Netflix is a really great scary movie for kids who want something more frightening than animated movies, but aren’t quite ready for the REALLY scary stuff yet. Another reason to watch is the incredibly talented Krysten Ritter, Lidya Jewett, and Winslow Fegley. They have fantastic chemistry on-screen and off-screen.
Ritter has same incredible costumes in Nightbooks and gives all the credit to her costume designer, Autumn. She said that Autumn just had a really fresh take on everything and even was able to make them breast-feeding friendly. There were secret zippers and tricks that would allow her to feed her baby, which is so awesome to make that extra effort.
Ritter also added that “You want to play homage to the great witches, but you don’t want to repeat something you’ve already seen.” She said Natacha, her character, is very cool herself and is like a goth Barbie, a punk witch goth Barbie. Part of the fun with her role was really going for it, and she definitely loves playing a villain! She’s so good at it, too. Watch for little details like her nails, hair; they all had to her creepiness factor.
“I love opportunities to be over the top. You want to play characters that have a lot of colors. She was very funny and fabulous and childlike herself and then truly terrifying and deranged and sick. A total psychopath.”
In fact, all of the characters had so many layers, which made the movie work so well.
Ritter exclaimed, “Playing the big bad over the top was so much fun!!”
Nightbooks is now streaming on Netflix.
