Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a cute ride, and one of my favorite additions to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. When Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened at Disneyland on January 27th, 2023, the only way to ride was through a Virtual Queue or by purchasing Lightning Lane. However, now beginning February 22, 2023, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will have a standby line!
How to Ride Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland is located in Mickey’s Toontown and does not have a height requirement. It is a kid-friendly ride that will be a great addition for families at Disneyland.
Beginning February 22, 2023 there are two ways to ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland – by waiting in a standby line queue or by purchasing Lightning Lane. Disneyland is now following the way of Walt Disney World’s Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and added a standby option so you no longer need a Boarding Group through a Virtual Queue.
Buy Individual Lightning Lane for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
You can purchase an Individual Lightning Lane for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland through the Disneyland app. The price averages $20 per guest and prices are subject to change. You do not need to purchase Genie+ in addition to the Lightning Lane to ride.
When you purchase your Lightning Lane for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway (available through the app starting at 7:00 AM), make sure you’ll be in the park for the time window you choose. You’ll have an hour window and you will also need a park reservation for that day.
While your wait time will be much shorter, you also miss part of the queue when purchasing a Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Lightning Lane.

You can ride for free with a virtual queue boarding group or you can pay to ride with Lightning Lane, but those will go quickly. You can also hold a boarding group and purchase a Lightning Lane for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, but you cannot join the virtual queue more than once in a day.
If you want to ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway you must have a valid theme park ticket and reservation for Disneyland. you’ll have 2 different times during the day to ride.
- Guests with a valid ticket and theme park reservation for the same day may have 2 opportunities to join the virtual queue via the Disneyland app, subject to availability.
- To access the virtual queue in the morning, Guests must have a valid ticket and theme park reservation for Disneyland Park. Guests can confirm their designated party starting at 6:00 AM and then check for an available boarding group starting at 7:00 AM.
- To access the virtual queue later in the day, Guests must have entered Disneyland Park with a one-park ticket or Park Hopper ticket, or Disney California Adventure Park with a Park Hopper ticket. Guests can confirm their designated party starting at noon and then check for an available boarding group starting at 1:00 PM.
How to get a Boarding Group for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland
If you’re a pro at getting a boarding group for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or World of Color, then you know the process. A standby queue is not available for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland, which means you just can’t show up and get in line to ride.
You must have a boarding group to ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway at Disneyland, not at Walt Disney World.
These are my best tips to get a boarding group for a virtual queue and it’s been fool-proof for me so far for Disney virtual queues (knock on wood).
How to Ride Disneyland’s Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Log in to the Disneyland app before 7:00 a.m. and select “Join Virtual Queues” on the home screen.
- Make sure everyone in your party has a valid ticket. As long as your Disney account is linked to your group’s park tickets, and everyone has valid admission and park reservations for the park you will visit, you can enroll everyone in the virtual queue at the same time (subject to availability).
- Make sure you are connected to your party in Friends and Family.
- Be on the Disneyland app and on the virtual queue page 5 minutes before 7 a.m. (or 1 p.m.)
- Check the World Clock and click Join Virtual Queue at 6:59:59.
- Then hit join again immediately on the next screen until you get your confirmation.
- Have speedy fingers. Boarding Groups will be full within seconds.
- Once you get a confirmation, wait for your Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Group to be called and then proceed to the attraction within an hour of your boarding group being called.
If you don’t get a boarding group at 7 a.m., you still have the opportunity to try at 1:00 p.m. if you are already inside the park.
