As a Star Wars and a Disney Parks fan, dreams came true when Disney announced a Star Wars Park at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. At Star Wars Celebration, we got so much information about what we can expect at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney Parks like attractions, details, video, pictures, and more! Here’s your guide to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
Your Guide to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney Parks
Josh Gad was the host for this panel and tried to find out all the inside scoop on Star Wars Land for us! Something we already knew – Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opening dates.
Star Wars Land Opening Dates
When is the opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland and Disney World? They’ll open it first at Disneyland Resort on May 31, 2019; Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World will open August 29, 2019.
Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Rides
There will be two main attractions at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run and Star Wars Rise of the Resistance. Smugglers Run will be available on opening day while Star Wars Rise of the Resistance, will be open later, with no dates confirmed.
Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run
Josh Gad did get to walk inside Star Wars Land, and he was so excited! He said it’s “A place, a planet no less, to live out adventures!”
Galaxy’s Edge is a planet, once of prominence. Now it’s the place where people don’t want to be anymore – the smugglers, the interesting people. It’s a place for us, as guests, to start our Star Wars story. Imagineers want us to participate and not just be a spectator.
On Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run, become the flight crew on the Millennium Falcon and take the fastest ship in the galaxy on an interactive mission.
The experience begins outside with the huge Millennium Falcon. It’s unlike anything Disney has offered our guests before. It’s up to you to pilot the ship. Everyone works together as a crew with gunners and engineers having an experience in the cockpit. It’s up to you and your crew to determine the outcome of your ship.
Sparks will fly if you hit something, but do what you can to bring the ship back in order. Hondo Ohnaka will not be happy if you don’t.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
Star Wars Rise of the Resistance is the other main attraction in Galaxy’s Edge. Go outside of the village in Black Spire Outpost where you find the resistance. You just might find yourself prisoners of the First Order on a Star Destroyer. You might run into Kylo Ren or you may find friends like Rey, Poe, and BB-8.

Food and Drink at Star Wars Land
Admit it. You’re like me and want to know the important stuff- Star Wars snacks! Yes, we have Oga’s Cantina! And yes, we have awesome music in there from John Williams and DJ Rex.
We’ll get space meat (Roasted Bronto), Blue and Green Milk, and Mynock Jerky. Plus Coca-Cola made some impressive bottles in Arabish. They really wanted to bring Star Wars to life with their products. I can dig it.
Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Merchandise
The overall message from everyone on the panel was authenticity. They really wan it to be authentic. So, all the merchandise in Galaxy’s Edge feels like they would be made by the people there.
Doc Ondar (I’m unsure of the spelling), but this is the guy you want to barter with and purchase from his shop if you want authentic merchandise. Disney placed and hid Easter eggs in his store for everyone. This store is for if you’re a fan of the prequels, original trilogy, the stand-alone films, all Star Wars fans!
You can purchase regular lightsabers, but those aren’t the only ones you’ll find. You’ll also be able to customize your own!!
How is Star Wars Land Different?
How and why is Star Wars Land different than anything else? Why are we going to a different planet? Why not Tatooine?
Because those planets are a reflection of the characters you already met.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is about your journey. You are the rogue adventurer.
Everyone involved in Galaxy’s Edge wants you to be part of the story and the history. They took great care in bringing in the best. John Williams, Frank Oz, and Jim Cummings are just examples of bringing people who have worked with the films to make the ultimate Star Wars playground.
You’ll also get a more immersive experience with the Play Disney Parks app and get a Star Wars data badge for Galaxy’s Edge. There will be options to Hack, Scan, Translate, and Tune. The scale and scope of it all is insane, and I can’t wait to experience Galaxy’s Edge at Disney Parks for myself!
