Wondering if Finding ‘Ohana on Netflix is ok for kids? Finding ‘Ohana is rated PG for language, crude references, and suggestive material, basically there are some potty words like buttfaces and balls. ‘Ohana means family, and that’s what the core of this film is about. Here’s what parents need to know in this Finding ‘Ohana Parents Guide.

Is Finding ‘Ohana Kid Friendly?
An unexpected summer in O‘ahu takes an exciting and dangerous turn for two Brooklyn-raised siblings when a journal pointing to long-lost treasure sets them on an epic adventure with new friends, and leads them to reconnect with their Hawaiian heritage.
Siblings Pili (Kea Peahu) and E, short for Iaone (Alex Aiono) fight like normal siblings do. Pili was supposed to be at a geocache camp, but instead is stuck in Hawaii when her grandfather is sick. Right, who doesn’t want to go to Hawaii? When Pili and E find out there’s no wifi at Papa’s house, things really get ugly.
However, Pili finds a new friend who’s willing to go on an adventure after she finds an old journal that directs them to Spanish gold and riches. Somehow E gets dragged into it, and they find themselves in trouble. Think Goonies meets that episode of the Brady Bunch where they go to Hawaii.
Why is Finding ‘Ohana rated PG? Well there’s some rude language and a couple of bad words. Read on for a complete guide for parents to Finding ‘Ohana on Netflix.
Language
There is one use of a**, a few uses of hell, and words like balls (not the bouncing kind), male udders, nips, stupid, idiot, butthole, turd, salty nughole, and an incomplete use of sh–. A lot of it is sibling bickering.
Mature Content
There is some content that could be scary for young kids. A group of kids go on an adventure looking for treasure. Some of the situations are tense and frightening.
In one scene, there are spiders and a character gets bit.
There are dead bodies and skeleton bones in a cave. Some characters use swords and weapons.
They talk about the death of a parent.
There is some kissing between characters, but nothing too passionate.

Is Finding ‘Ohana Appropriate for Kids Under 10?
Finding ‘Ohana is a fun family film about adventure and going back to your roots. There are some pop culture references that will make kids laugh, and there’s even a “Luis from Ant-Man” vibe with Pili’s storytelling. I would recommend Finding ‘Ohana for kids 10 and up due to some of the scary situations and the length of the film. It’s long. However, you could go younger, but just be careful as some of the name-calling is what younger ones pick up on.
The cinematography is beautiful, as it’s hard to mess up shots of Hawaii. A look into Hawaiian culture and use of some of the native language helped foster an appreciation and respect for the people and traditions.
One of the major downfalls of Finding ‘Ohana is that it just felt long. Some of the emotional moments of healing old family rifts and relationships are some of the movie’s most important messages, but it was a slow burn. The second half of the movie felt a bit chaotic as it went full-on Goonies style in the caves.
But I was quick to forgive as the film recognized the influences before it such as Indiana Jones references and a classic Keanu Reeves poster, because Keanu is a Hawaiian treasure. Lilo & Stitch may have taught us that ‘Ohana means family, but Finding ‘Ohana teaches us that friends are family and that our heritage should not be forgotten.
Finding ‘Ohana is fun for the whole family and especially during a pandemic, is a grateful respite from being at home all the time.
