The newest Star Wars TV show on Disney+ gives us some more background on our favorite bounty hunter. However is The Book of Boba Fett kid friendly? Not for all kids. Why is The Book of Boba Fett Rated TV-14?

The Book of Boba Fett is Rated TV-14 for action and violence. 

Language

There is no profanity in the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett. However, that could also be because half of it was not in English. As the series progresses there are a few uses of hell and damn.

Action

There are some tense jump scenes which could be scary for young kids. 

The episode starts off darker with violent flashbacks and lots of hand-to-hand combat with different weapons such as sticks and staffs, as well as knives and rockets.  Some characters are killed, but nothing graphic or gory. There are also attacks from beasts and animals.

A character is beaten with sticks while tied up; kept as prisoner, chained, dragged by animals, and made to work as a slave.

One flashback is gross as Boba Fett gets outs of the sarlaac. 

As chapters progress, the violence gets heavier, but nothing out of the ordinary for Star Wars shows and films. 

Is The Book of Boba Fett Appropriate for Kids Under 13?

The Book of Boba Fett starts off slow and can get boring if you’re not a fan of Boba Fett. Very little is known about the history of Boba Fett from the Star Wars movies, in which he has only about four lines of dialogue and about six and half minutes of screen time.  Much of what we do know about Boba Fett’s current situation comes from his appearances in The Mandalorian.

At least half of the episode consists of flashbacks about how Boba Fett survived/escaped the Sarlacc and the Great Pit of Carkoon, as last seen in Return of the Jedi. These scenes are flashbacks as Boba Fett continues to recover and contains little dialogue.

Star Wars fans will get plenty of nostalgia on Tatooine and familiar Star Wars creatures and scenery. However, is that enough? It’ll be interesting to see where this story goes. Since The Mandalorian and Boba Fett are similar characters and we already have The Mandalorian, Boba has to come out of his shell. Fennec’s character is a great addition and Ming-Na Wen has always been a fantastic action star, so here’s hoping for more screen time for her. 

Is The Book of Boba Fett too scary for kids? There are definitely scary creatures and scenes, but if they’re Star Wars fans, it’s on par with the rest of the fandom. I am cautiously optimistic about where the story can go, but right now they didn’t give much.

For additional information on the original character development, including costume design, Star Wars role, and rise to popularity, I recommend watching Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett on Disney+.  It’s a 20 minute behind-the-scenes look at the character’s origin and interviews with original Star Wars production and design staff, including George Lucas.

As the series progresses, it does get more interesting with Chapter 5 being the standout thus far. 
It almost feels like a Star Wars version of the Godfather. While it doesn’t quite have the appeal of The Mandalorian, Boba Fett evolves and is not the hardened bounty hunter he once was. It’s an interesting arc that gives a different look and perhaps a softer Boba.
