Is The Suicide Squad (2021) Kid Friendly? Parents Guide

Wondering if The Suicide Squad (2021) is ok for kids? It’s not. The Suicide Squad is rated R, which means it’s usually not suitable for kids under 17. Though many kids and teens may want to watch if they love DC Comics and are fans of James Gunn, it’s dark and intense. Here’s what parents need to know in this Suicide Squad Parents Guide.

Is The Suicide Kid Friendly?

The Suicide Squad 2021 Parents Guide

This isn’t the first Suicide Squad movie. It seems like this Suicide Squad is doing everything to erase the memory of the 2016 Suicide Squad. You’ll meet Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), the leader of the government’s shady Task Force X program.  She assembles a group of hardcore prisoners –  including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn – to carry out an impossible mission (some would say suicidal).

They must destroy evidence of Project Starfish- an enormous alien starfish that could destroy the world that is locked up on the  island nation of Corto Maltese. They must trek through a jungle teeming with militants and guerrilla forces at every turn in this search-and-destroy mission. Will any of them make it out alive?

Why is The Suicide Squad rated R? A lot of reasons including drug use, violence and gore, brief graphic nudity, language, and sexual references.

Language

There is a lot of profanity in The Suicide Squad including many, many uses of fu*k. There are also plenty of uses of sh*t, a**, bit*h, damn and other sexual words like dickhead, pu**y and tits. There are also uses of Deity like “oh my g-d” and g-ddamn.

Mature Content

This movie is filled with tons of blood and gore. Some of it is more comical than Mortal Kombat, but parents should know there are A LOT of killings. Several scenes are killing sprees including beheadings, stabbings, explosions, fist fights, impalements, shootings, bodies are ripped apart, etc. People’s heads explode. Some heads are sliced in half. Many favorite characters die. There are closeups of bloody faces. Deaths are graphic, and it’s not pretty.

For kids and teens used to movies with violence, some may be effected at the way characters die. Some are shocking.

There is female nudity in the movie and a glimpse of a penis. There are also some some crude sexual references (including masturbation) as well as a scene where characters have sex and are seen crashing and breaking things around the room.

Characters drink alcohol and are seen drunk. Another character injects himself with heroin. A character overdoses.

A father and daughter have a complicated relationship. They get into a big f-you a screaming match.

Why The Suicide Squad is rated R

Is The Suicide Squad Appropriate For Kids Under 17?

If you like carnage, The Suicide Squad is a bloodbath, and this film is for you. Is The Suicide Squad kid friendly? No. I wouldn’t recommend it for kids or teens, but I’m also not the target audience for this film. Guardians of the Galaxy is my least favorite film in the MCU, so James Gunn’s sense of humor is sometimes lost on me.

The team is a motley crew and sometimes you can’t help but love the chaos and mismatches amongst them. You can always expect mayhem, and mayhem you get. I will give James Gunn credit for having an imaginative mind.

The Suicide Squad is bloody, gory, dark, irreverent, goofy, violent, and all the things. James Gunn does the most. It’s just too much, all the time. I can appreciate extra, but in this instance, less is more for me.

This movie is definitely NOT appropriate for children under 16. I was watching the movie before my daughter to see if it was appropriate and it was most definitely not. We thought it would be like the original with Will Smith but it was not. In the first few scenes, it was of their team being violently murdered and someone's head blew up. Later after the intro, another team was killing an entire camp and a man opened a curtain to reveal that he was entirely naked on his bottom half revealing his manhood. There is also a sex scene and female nudity. Also a lot of cursing and a fighting match between a father and his daughter. I hope anyone who reads this, takes it into recommendation before letting their child watch it

Is Free Guy Kid Friendly? Parents Guide - Lola Lambchops

Saturday 14th of August 2021

[…] Since Guy is living in a video game, there is video game violence including people getting shot, guns frequently used and pulled out to threaten others, people get stabbed, things are set on fire,  there are explosions, fighting, etc. However, there isn’t a really blood and gore. The violence is supposed to be part of the video game and some is used for comedic purposes. It’s definitely no Suicide Squad. […]
