The last Star Wars film released in theaters was Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu has big shoes to fill and while not quite the blockbuster Star Wars fans may be hoping for, it does scratch an itch to see franchise characters on the big screen again. Is The Mandalorian and Grogu kid friendly? Yes and no. There may not be strong language, but it feels even more violent than the typical Star Wars film. Here’s what parents need to know.

The Mandalorian and Grogu Parents Guide
In Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, the Empire has fallen, and there are still Imperial warlords scattered throughout the galaxy. The New Republic is working to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, so they have hired legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. The Mandalorian and Grogu find themselves on several dangerous adventures and jobs, with things often getting messy. Sometimes a little too messy.
Parents need to know that Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is one of the most violent Star Wars films and may be too scary for some kids.
The Mandalorian and Grogu Age Rating
Why is Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu rated PG-13? The Mandalorian and Grogu is rated PG-13 for strong violence which means some content is not appropriate for kids under 13.
Language
There is no profanity, but there is a use of “hell.”
Violence
You can expect typical Star Wars sci-fi violence like uses of blasters and some hand-to-hand combat. However, The Mandalorian television show has always had a darker tone, and the film follows suit. You see characters blown up, electrocuted, set on fire, tortured, and killed. Several scenes have a Gladiator movie type feel with creatures fighting, instead of humans. There are also jump scares and nasty, brutal creatures that attack beloved characters. I noticed myself and the lady next to me flinching and shutting one eye. It can get gruesome.
Mature Content
There is no sexual or romantic content in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Is The Mandalorian and Grogu Appropriate for Kids Under 12?
You can expect some creature brutality and violent fight scenes in this latest Star Wars film. The Mandalorian and Grogu is kid friendly for kids ages 12 and older. Usually I give Star Wars films a green light for kids ages 8-10 and older, but due to some of the more graphic scenes, I recommend it for a slightly older crowd. Grogu and Anzellans do enhance the cute and funny factors, so there is some light to balance out the darkness.
The Mandalorian is an excellent series on Disney+, especially seasons 1 and 2. There you have the time for character development, progression of story, and to truly root for your favorites. The Mandalorian and Grogu still has some of that same magic with the relationship between Mando and Grogu. Is Grogu still incredibly adorable? Yes. Is Pedro Pascal still hot? Absolutely. Did I learn anything new about them from the film? Not really. And that was probably my biggest frustration.
This film is meant to introduce new fans to these characters, and that’s not a bad thing, it’s just not progressing the Star Wars stories any further. There were no real stakes for the galaxy.
I also could have done without some of the brutality, especially if it’s meant to be a family film. But there’s no denying that Grogu will melt your heart. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is entertaining with plenty of action, and it was fun to see these characters on the big screen.
