Teenage Bounty Hunters Parents Guide | Is it Kid Friendly?

Although the word teenage is in Teenage Bounty Hunters, it doesn’t mean this Netflix show is appropriate for teens. While witty and humorous at times, Teenage Bounty Hunters is rated TV-MA for language, nudity, and well, everything else you can think of. It also parodies and mocks the southern Christian town stereotype. Here’s what parents need to know in this Teenage Bounty Hunters Parents Guide.

Teenage Bounty Hunters Parents Guide

Teenage Bounty Hunters is about teenage twins (Maddie Phillips, Anjelica Bette Fellini) from a conservative Southern town who attend a private Christian school and accidentally run into a new side hustle as Bounty Hunters. Under the wing of Bowser (Kadeem Hardison), they help him bring in the bad guys while also surviving the judgmental life of teenage holier-than-thou classmates.

Teenage Bounty Hunters is not ok for kids or even tweens. The content is too mature and depending on what you’re comfortable with, may be too mature for teens. We’re talking naked people, lots of sex talk, strip joints, drug use, alcohol use, language galore, guns, violence, you name it, Teenage Bounty Hunters has got it.

Language

There is plenty of language in Teenage Bounty Hunters with all the words you can think of – sh–, a–hole, fu–, damn, g-ddamn, mother f-er and words like c-nt and dick.

Mature Content

The opening scene of the series is the twins with their boyfriends about to have sex. While one pair is having second thoughts and suggests praying, the girl quotes scripture about why they go through with it, and they do. The characters talk about teen sex (homosexual and heterosexual) a lot and are judged by the student body for fornication. They also talk about and show masturbation.

Teenage Bounty Hunters also slips in a lot of politics while skimming over racism, climate control, beheading of statues, gun rights, and Christianity. So yes, this show leans liberal. But there is plenty of room for conversation.

One scene involves a strip joint where there is nudity and many topless dancers and drug use. They talk about body image, but the whole scene is unnecessary. Another scene shows a naked man running from them where you pretty much see everything,

There are a lot of stereotypes about all kinds of people, so while adults may understand the sarcasm, teens may not. Be aware of underage drinking and partying, too.

Is Teenage Bounty Hunters Appropriate for Teens Under 18?

While the premise of the show is a bit ridiculous, it does have a smart Veronica Mars vibe at times, but Veronica had reasons for her PI life. Two rich white girls being Bounty Hunters with snarky quotes, helping a black man (because he needs their help?) for the thrill of it and having to pay off their daddy’s truck feeds into some of the stereotypes this show is trying to debunk.

There are some lessons to be learned as the twins grapple with being good people versus the concept of sin, but Christianity and the Bible are questioned and often ridiculed. I’m all for being able to laugh at yourself, but be prepared.  Sometimes it crosses the line. I wouldn’t recommend Teenage Bounty Hunters for teens under 18.

The story starts out as an adventure and then gets muddled with teenage drama and preaching of the opposite variety. While shows like The Baby-Sitters Club essentially teach the same principles, but on a more age-appropriate level, Teenage Bounty Hunters gets all kinds of crazy, making some important issue very flippant. Teenage Bounty Hunters will cause teens to think and may be all girl power, but it may cause them to have different views than you were hoping for.
