Secret Invasion is the Nick Fury Story

Secret Invasion is Marvel’s newest show on Disney+ and this spy thriller is different than other Marvel shows and movies in the MCU. Director Ali Selim said Secret Invasion is ” the Nick Fury story.” Marvel wanted a darker, grittier show.

If you’re wondering how Secret Invasion fits into Phase 5 of the MCU, Producer Jonathan Schwartz says “it’s present day MCU.” It’s post-blip, post She-Hulk, so the timeline fits with when the shows come out.

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) has been in space for S.A.B.E.R., but he’s called back to Earth by Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) when there’s a threat of an invasion on Earth by Skrulls. But it’s too late, because the Skrulls have already been living on Earth for years, waiting for Nick Fury to keep his promises. But they feel he’s abandoned them, and they’re not happy.

Samuel L Jackson said about Fury, “The more you find out about him, then the more you’re gonna like him. The more I like him.” They are peeling back his onion. You’ll get to see if Fury lives in a house, a condo, does he have furniture? Can he cook? The cast was laughing as he posed these questions.

Selim said, “He’s a human. He does have his own version of superpowers, but they’re not like superhero superpowers. And it’s a story about him putting his feet back on the ground once again after some time.” Secret Invasion is a story that comes from the heart.

At the beginning Fury definitely is not what you are used to. He’s broken, slower, has a bad knee, and doesn’t see things coming as quickly. However even when people are writing him off in the story he says, “I’m Nick Fury. Even when I’m out, I’m in.”

Secret Invasion is now streaming on Disney+! This Secret Invasion Parents Guide will give you age recommendations for your kids as the show is a little darker than most MCU shows.
