Wondering if Secret Invasion, Marvel’s newest series on Disney+, is ok for kids? Secret Invasion is mature, dark, gritty, and is not kid friendly for all ages. This spy thriller keeps you on your toes as you don’t know who to trust or who is a Skrull. Here’s what parents need to know in this Secret Invasion Parents Guide.
Secret Invasion Parents Guide
Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is summoned back to Earth after he learns of a secret invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. However, he’s not the same man as he was before the blip during the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Fury joins his allies, including Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) a Skrull who he made a promise to, but didn’t really keep up his end of the deal. Together they must thwart an imminent Skrull invasion on Earth, because the Skrulls want Earth to be their home now. And they’ll stop at nothing including starting wars amongst humanity.
Parents need to know that Secret Invasion is probably the least kid-friendly Marvel TV show in the MCU. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth a watch.
Age Rating: Why is Secret Invasion Rated TV-14?
Secret Invasion is Rated TV-14 for intense violence, suggestive dialogue, and strong language which means some content is not suitable for kids under 14.
Language In Secret Invasion
Profanity is pretty high for a Marvel show. In just the first two episodes of Secret Invasion, you can expect at least a few uses of a**, sh*t, damn, hell, a use of g-ddamn, and the use of bastards.
Violence: Is Secret Invasion Too Scary for Kids?
Secret Invasion is more violent than other Marvel TV series and will be too scary for younger children. You can expect jump scares, torture methods, a finger being cut off, explosions killing thousands of people, plenty of fighting and use of weapons, close ups of hand-to-hand combat, and killings without remorse. In one scene, a character cuts off another character’s finger.
Mature Content: Is Secret Invasion OK for Kids?
Characters drink alcohol.
A comment about “playing doctor” is made.
Mature topics such as grief, mental health, death, strained family relationships, revolution, and politics are present in Secret Invasion.
Is Secret Invasion Appropriate for Kids Under 14?
Secret Invasion is not your typical superhero show. It will be interesting how it all plays out, but it’s more of Nick Fury’s story arc. How has he changed since the blip? Who will he become? Nick is older, has a bad knee, doesn’t seem like the “get it done” type of guy he used to be. There are a lot of seemingly unfulfilled promises that characters are angry about, and it may be time to pay his dues.
You can expect to see some blood, close up shots of weapons used, intense violence, dark tones, and profanity used by some characters. To sum it up, Secret Invasion is not kid friendly for kids under 10. We recommend parents screening this show first, just to see if the content is appropriate for your children.
For audiences not familiar with the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I recommend at least watching Captain Marvel at minimum and then adding in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame if possible.
Skrulls are shapeshifters and can turn into any human form, so part of the mystery is guessing who in the show is actually human while the Skrulls have been living on Earth for quite some time. I don’t mind a darker Marvel show as long as there is a point. So right now after two episodes, I’m optimistic. This beginning of Phase 5 is much stronger than many of the Phase 4 MCU entries, so I hope it doesn’t let me down.
I’m just hoping we get the old Fury back, because right now, he’s kinda mid. But I forgive him. He’s been through a lot
The new characters are proving to be a force to be reckoned with. Welcome to the MCU, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Olivia Colman.
