Prey Parents Guide

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, “Prey” is the story of a young woman, Naru (Amber Midthunder), a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains and faces discrimination from her tribe due to the patriarchy. Her brother Taabe (Dakota Beavers) is known as the true warrior of the tribe.  However, when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

Why is Prey Rated R?

Prey is rated R for bloody violence and gore which means some content is not suitable for kids under 17.

Is Prey Too Scary for Kids?

Prey is a horror film about survival which may be too much for kids to handle. Prey is not for younger kids even if they are into the horror genre.

Language in Prey

Prey does have some profanity including sh*t, bit*h, and damn (merde in French).

Violence and Action in Prey

There are a lot of brutal deaths in Prey including characters that are decapitated, spikes through skulls, characters mauled by animals, characters are shot with guns and arrows in different body parts, characters get caught in animal traps, etc. It gets bloody, and it gets vicious. Animals are also injured.

Prey OK for Kids

Is Prey Appropriate for Kids Under 16?

What parents should be most concerned about in Prey is the graphic violence. There isn’t sexual content and there is minimal language. Prey is a Predator film, so you can expect the action in other Predator films.

From the cinematography to the sound editing, Prey is just fantastic in all aspects of storytelling. Amber Midthunder as Naru has incredible action sequences and nails the role as she proves her worth and strength to her tribe. It’s refreshing to be rid of the stereotypes generally given to indigenous people and Native Americans.

There’s even some humor to help lighten the overall fighting tone. Prey is a fresh take on a reboot for the Predator franchise and it pays off. Overall I’d recommend Prey for kids 16 years and older, but parents know their child best.
