Wondering if PAINT is ok for kids? Slow pacing and mature content make Paint a better choice for an older crowd. Here’s what parents need to know in this Paint Parents Guide.

Paint Movie Parents Guide
Owen Wilson is Carl Nargle, Vermont’s #1 public television painter on PBS. The people love him and most would say he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke that is until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.
The station is struggling, and when Carl doesn’t want to fill two hours of a painting show, they find a new painter to add another time slot. Ambrosia (Ciara Renée) brings in a younger audience and higher ratings and can <gasp> paint TWO paintings in one hour. Eventually Carl is asked to leave the station since he makes too much money, and has a bit of a life crisis.
Age Rating: Why is PAINT Rated PG-13?
Paint is rated PG-13 for sexual and suggestive material, smoking, and drug use which means some content may not be suitable for kids under 13 years old.
Language in PAINT
There is not much language in Paint, but there is a use of son of a bi*ch and hell.
Mature Content: Is Paint OK for Kids?
There is quite a bit of suggestive and sexual content, but there is no nudity in Paint. A man sleeps with multiple women in the same workplace. A young girl (over 18) tries to seduce an older man and starts to undress him. Characters kiss and make out in the back of a van and sex is implied. Two female characters kiss. One exclaims that she has never had sex with a woman. A character sucks on another’s fingers.
The whole older man sleeping around scenario is kind of creepy.
A character gives another marijuana and gummies. A character gets high. A character smokes a pipe throughout the film.
A house is on fire.

Is Paint Appropriate for Kids Under 13?
You can expect sexual references and jokes, mature themes, and a little bit of language in Paint. To sum it up, Paint is not kid-friendly for kids under 13. Because of the dark humor and slow pace, I don’t think kids under 16 would be interested in Paint unless they are Bob Ross fans.
And if you are a Bob Ross fan, I don’t know if you’ll appreciate how his likeness is portrayed. Carl Nargle is imperfect, has flaws, is out of touch, and perhaps that’s what makes him endearing to the women he seduces and to audiences who will enjoy this film. Sadly I wasn’t one of them.
I like dry humor, but I didn’t get the point of the film. It was lost on me. But I can see how some would appreciate it. Owen Wilson as Nargle in his whispery, calm voice which creeped me out, is relatable. Narcissistic and also insecure, Wilson balances out the character well.
Other than that, I found Paint to be pretty bland. It was not a work of art in my book, but like all art, it’s in the eye of the beholder.
