Obi-Wan Kenobi Parents Guide

For about 10 years, Obi-Wan has been in hiding after Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi have basically all been killed, and The Inquisitor and Reva are hunting down the last ones, including Obi-Wan, even though he wants nothing more to do with that life. He only wants to protect Luke.

After Leia Organa has been kidnapped, he must decide whether to help an old friend and get her back.

Language in Obi-Wan Kenobi

In the first two episodes, there was no profanity in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Mature Content

There are some fighting scenes which is to be expected in a Star Wars show. So far from the first two episodes, I would rate the violence less than The Mandalorian. I do expect the action to pick up more as stakes get higher.

The opening scene in Episode 1 may be upsetting for some in light of recent current events.

There are lightsaber battles and blasters used to injure and kill characters.

One character is seen hung in the village courtyard.

Some moments are emotional as there are flashbacks to previous Star Wars films.

Mature themes such as regret and death of parents and loved ones are addressed.

Obi-Wan is ok for kids who have seen the Star Wars films and other shows. They are comparable in all aspects in regards to appropriateness for children and families.

Is Obi-Wan Kenobi Appropriate For Kids Under 12?

TV-14 is an appropriate rating for Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, depending on your child’s maturity, kids ages 8 and older would probably be ok if they’re familiar with Star Wars.

There are some dark moments and scenes with Storm Troopers and the dark side that can frighten kids.

To me, this felt like the return back to the original Star Wars storytelling I came to love. There were Easter Eggs, flashbacks, cameos, and fan service done in a tasteful manner.

Little Leia is a scene-stealer and while some may not appreciate her sassiness, I sure did. It sets up a character who is a born leader and likes some rebellion.

Ewan McGregor is fantastic as a man broken from failure, trying to forget about the past, but the past won’t let him. Who doesn’t love a good comeback story?
