I liked The LEGO Movie. It was funny, my kids sang “Everything is Awesome” a million times, and we watch it on DVD every so often. When I started watching trailers for The LEGO Batman movie, I was a tiny bit skeptical. I mean, a whole movie about Batman? Oh why did I doubt you Will Arnett? Forgive me. I was wrong. The LEGO Batman movie is probably the best DC Universe movie ever. I’ll also give you the scoop on why it’s rated PG for ‘rude humor and some action.’
What Is The LEGO Batman Movie About?
In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure: “The LEGO Batman Movie.” But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.
Why Should You Take Your Family To See It?
I’ve loved Will Arnett since the Arrested Development days. Then you add in Michael Cera as Robin, and it almost feels like a mini-reunion. There are laughs for days. It’s clever, witty humor with some Batman throwbacks that parents will appreciate. The LEGO Batman movie is so good at poking fun at things, you would laugh even if it was poking fun at you. The movie is silly, smart, and also throws in a moral lesson for the kiddos.
Extra bonuses: Not only do you get your favorite Batman characters as LEGOs, but you also see favorite villains from other movies. And there are some sweet dance scenes.
Is The LEGO Batman Movie Appropriate for All Ages?
I took my 5 children, ages 12 to 4, with me. They all loved it! My 4-year-old got a little bit scared at the beginning, because the scene was a little dark. Typical LEGO Batman vs. Joker scene. She was fine the rest of the time. There is a bit of ‘rude humor.’ Words like butt, hate, sucks, etc. are thrown around sometimes, but no swear words, and I don’t really recall potty humor.
There are scenes where LEGO Batman and Robin are in their underwear, and while humorous to some, it could bother others. But they’re LEGOs. So you can judge that one for yourself.
There is some minimal violence/action scenes. Picture a Batman movie, and that’s what you can expect only in LEGO form.
Is It Worth It?
Absolutely! The LEGO Batman movie was hilarious. Y’all know I’m a huge Captain America fan, so when they uttered the phrase, “Password: Ironman Sucks,” I was rolling in my seat. I continued to laugh 5 minutes later. I looked around to see if anyone else was still laughing with me, but I think the rest of the theater moved on.
LEGO Batman throws some shade, while also figuring out why he’s such an ego-maniac. The movie got a little deep, but overall, it was a good lesson about teamwork and family. This one is well worth your money. Now if only they’d make all the DC Comic movies as awesome…
