The Candlelight Processional is a holiday tradition in Epcot as a celebrity narrator tells the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. A choir sings Christmas songs and is made up of cast members and sometimes the community. Many who enjoy this tradition are familiar with the program, but there have been some changes to the Candlelight Processional for 2022.
2022 Changes to the Candlelight Processional in Epcot
Some of the changes to the Candlelight Processional in Epcot for 2022 are subtle, some may bother some guests, and some won’t notice at all. If you attend the Candlelight Processional frequently, you may notice a few changes.
Cast Members Used to Stand in the Tree
In previous Candlelight Processionals, the Cast Member choir used to fill in the tree. Now the Voices of Liberty are the ones stand as part of the tree with the Cast Members on the sides.
Voices of Liberty Open the Show
The Voices of Liberty now open the Candlelight Processional with an upbeat song, rather than the more reverent type of songs traditionally sung during Candlelight. Then the choir enters the theater from both sides.
Community Choir is in the First Show
The Community Choir is in the first show of each Candlelight Processional and the Cast Member choir is in the 2nd and 3rd shows of the night. This is probably a Covid change to prevent outbreaks should one occur.
New Song Added
They have added the song Do You Hear What I Hear?
New Combination of Songs
They have sort of morphed Joy to the World with the Hallelujah Chorus. This may be confusing to some, because some people stand for the Hallelujah Chorus, but then Joy to the World is mixed in, and some more of the Hallelujah Chorus.
The Explanation of How Silent Night Was Made was Taken Out
Before Silent Night, there was an explanation of how Silent Night was created. Now they talk about the shepherds and what they must have seen the night the Savior was born so there’s more continuity to the narrative.
The Candlelight Processional is a beautiful blend of performances and story and continues to be an amazing addition to Disney’s holiday celebrations.
