Why We Chose Invisalign Treatment for Our Tween

This post was sponsored by the Invisalign® brand and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

It’s tough deciding what type of orthodontic care your child should receive. I’ve had kids in traditional braces and after having finished my own Invisalign® treatment, we decided on Invisalign treatment for my tween. Here’s why we (and she) chose Invisalign treatment plus the answers to many frequently asked questions about the treatment.

Why we chose Invisalign for our tween

Why We Chose Invisalign Treatment for Our Tween

My children were not blessed with perfect teeth, dang it. I knew all 5 of my kids would need orthodontia. Knowing now what I know, I would have chosen Invisalign treatment for a couple of my other kids. Here are some of the reasons why.

My daughter (almost 11 years old) who chose Invisalign treatment for herself saw the pain her sisters went through. Her younger sister (age 8) is almost done with Phase 1 in braces, and she has cried many times. It’s not pleasant; I remember my own braces when I was in high school.

Between tightenings, wires poking, raw gums, and food getting stuck in their teeth, it didn’t look fun to my 11-year-old, so she has been begging me for Invisalign clear aligners, because she saw how easy the process was when I went through it.

One of the biggest reasons I would choose Invisalign treatment for my other daughters is that traditional braces stained my daughters’ teeth. My oldest daughter went pretty much unscathed. However, daughter #2 (12 years old) has stains from her brackets. I don’t blame her; it’s hard to floss and brush between brackets. And my 8-year-old, oh mercy, they’re bad. I’m scared to look when they come off, because I can already see the lines. We look forward to Invisalign aligners as they are easily removable, providing a great opportunity to maintain good oral hygiene throughout treatment.

What is Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign treatment is the most advanced clear aligner system in the world and is a nearly transparent, removable teeth-straightening system. Only Invisalign treatment uses SmartTrack® material that straightens teeth with more predictability than other clear aligners*.

Here’s what we wanted Invisalign clear aligners to help correct – my daughter’s overcrowding teeth, her overbite, and to straighten her teeth.

How does Invisalign for tweens and teens work?

How does Invisalign treatment work?

When you choose Invisalign treatment, you get to see your son or daughter’s treatment plan in 3D on the computer. Your doctor will map out a custom treatment plan just for your son or daughter, including tooth movement and approximate length of treatment time. You’ll be able to see what your child’s new smile can look like at the end of treatment. It’s very cool!!

I was hesitant to get Invisalign treatment for my oldest daughter, because I just didn’t know if it worked and there weren’t that many reviews out there then, but having completed my own Invisalign treatment, I know first-hand it works.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost and Your First Visit

Our orthodontist is Dr. Casagrande at Northern Virginia Orthodontics. He has always been our doctor, and we love the office! The Invisalign brand website has an easy to use Doctor Locator feature which will allow you to search for Invisalign-trained doctors in your area.

Invisalign treatment often costs about the same as traditional braces with Dr. Casagrande. You should be able to get the costs from your provider.

At your first visit and consultation, they’ll provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision. My family didn’t receive an office tour, because we were already familiar with the office. If there’s something you want to see, just ask! Then, pictures and x-rays came next to see if my daughter was a good candidate for Invisalign clear aligners.

Next, the doctor comes in to discuss treatment options. My daughter was a candidate! Although she’s 11-years-old, she lost all her baby teeth. While we were in the office, they asked if she wanted to get her iTero® digital scans done. They are highly accurate digital impressions. iTero digital scans eliminate the use of conventional impressions, which can be messy, taste unpleasant and can cause gagging.

It’s an easy process, painless, maybe a tad uncomfortable but it usually doesn’t hurt or involve anything sharp in your mouth. With the digital scans done, now she’s on to receiving her aligners in 4-6 weeks!

How do you deal with loss and replacement of the Invisalign, since these kids are still very young. I’m afraid my 11 yr old might loose them .

Honestly, my 11-year-old has never once lost her aligners. If you feel your child is prone to losing things, then maybe rethink it. But it became second nature for my daughter to carry her case with her. And if they do lose their aligner, well they change them every week. So worst case, save last week’s in case of an emergency or move up to the next one if it’s towards the end of the week.

My daughter is gonna need braces! I didn't know you could see a 3D treatment plan when you use Invisalign that's safe and accurate. I'll have to take my daughter in for a consultation, thanks to this post!

Great article! Every parent must read this if they are looking for options other than braces. However, if left untreated, crooked, overcrowded teeth or a misaligned bite can lead to a myriad of health concerns. There are many benefits in addressing orthodontic concerns during teenage years.
