Middle School Teacher Ryland Grace is recruited to help solve a big problem. The sun is dying and he needs to use his biology background to go to space and collect a sample of what could possibly be a solution. However, the whole plan is a big Hail Mary. Once in space, Grace meets “Rocky,” a rock from another planet who also needs to solve the same problem. Learning to communicate becomes essential as two unlikely heroes need to come together and save the galaxy. 

Since the movie is so long, there are times you can run to the bathroom or concession stand. Here are some of the best times to pee during Project Hail Mary, so you don’t miss out on any major plot points. Warning: there are some spoilers if you’re not familiar with the film.

When to use bathroom Project Hail Mary

  • If the science isn’t important to you, you can run to the bathroom when Grace starts researching astrophage or when he’s talking to world leaders. You will miss some information, but it’s not important if you’re here for the Grace and Rocky story.
  • One of my favorite scenes was the karaoke scene, but you can run to pee as soon as Stratt starts singing Sign of the Times. You won’t miss any major plot points, just a good emotional scene.
  • For kids, a good time to pee is when Stratt is preparing the deceased crew members bodies to be released into space.
  • You can also run to the concession stand during some of Rocky and Grace’s scenes when they are able to visit each other or when Rocky first comes to move into Grace’s ship. You’ll miss some of the connection between them, but nothing crucial.
