People We Meet on Vacation on Netflix is a film adaptation of Emily Henry’s popular novel. It is also one of the rare occasions in which the movie is better than the book. Rated PG-13, the film doesn’t get too saucy, but there are some more mature themes and scenes for the tween and teen crowds. Here’s what parents need to know in this People We Meet on Vacation Parents Guide.

This final vacation may make or break their friendship forever.

Language
There is some language including a lot of uses of sh*t, a use of a**, and a use of fu*king.
Mature Content
Parents need to know there is nudity in People We Meet on Vacation including a scene with people skinny dipping. The lighting is dark and you do see naked bodies running on the beach from far away. It’s mostly butt shots. Also one of the characters runs around naked because his clothes get washed away in the ocean. He covers the male genitals with his hand.
There is some sexual content including parents talking about sex. A mom brings out a box of condoms for her college aged daughter. The character then proceeds to tell her father she’s going to have a lot of sex in a sarcastic tone. The father proclaims “Drugs and condoms. Our work here is done.” This is all for comedic effect.
Several characters kiss. In one scene two characters want to have sex, start making out, but don’t. Another scene shows two characters having sex with some nudity, but the lighting is dark.
Poppy tells Alex a story in which she got the nickname “Porny Poppy” because a kid told others she “blew him.”
Characters drink alcohol and use drugs.

Is People We Meet on Vacation Appropriate for Kids Under 13?
Parents can expect some light nudity, drug use (not heavy), and sexual themes. To sum it up, People We Meet on Vacation on Netflix is kid friendly for ages 14 and older. If your kids have read the book, then they’ll know what to expect as it is pretty true to the storyline with some minor changes.
Blyth and Bader were the perfect choices for Alex and Poppy. One of the reasons I didn’t love the book was because I sometimes found Poppy’s character annoying and the back and forth flashbacks were too much. The film solved these issues for me. Bader still brought the quirkiness and energy, but she also toned it down enough to be able to relate to Poppy. Plus Blyth is so adorable and charming, the pair of them made the friends to lovers trope swoon worthy.
People We Meet on Vacation made me believe in rom-coms again. It was funny, sweet, a tad corny, and the almost 2-hour runtime flew by. However, because there was so much focus on Poppy and Alex, we didn’t really get to enjoy some of the extremely talented supporting cast. I wish we would have gotten a whole series from these characters. That or I would have liked to see this in theaters.
When the world feels as heavy as it does now, People We Meet on Vacation is a happy escapism from the noise for a couple of hours.
