Wondering if Pearl is ok for kids and teens? This horror film also has some porn and nudity, so just a heads up, parents. Pearl is not kid friendly. Here’s what parents need to know in this Pearl Parents Guide including a breakdown of language, violence, and sexual content.
Pearl Parents Guide
Filmmaker Ti West returns with another chapter from the twisted world of X. A prequel to X, Pearl takes place in 1918. Trapped on her family’s isolated farm, Pearl (Mia Goth) must tend to her ailing father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother. She dreams of being a dancer and leading a more glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies, Pearl finds her ambitions, temptations, and repressions all colliding in this stunning, technicolor-inspired origin story of X’s iconic villain.
Why is Pearl Rated R?
Pearl is rated R for violence, graphic nudity and sexual content which means some content may not be suitable for kids under 17 years old.
Is Pearl Kid Friendly?
You can expect to see some violence, blood and gore, full frontal nudity, horror elements, and death. To sum it up, Pearl is not kid friendly. Pearl will most likely be too scary some young kids and tweens.
Language
There is no profanity in Pearl but there are uses of hell, stupid, and whore.
Mature Content
The sexual content is quite graphic in Pearl. A black and white vintage porn film is shown where you can see characters having sex with full frontal nudity and thrusting. A man has sex with two different partners, and they are seen in different positions. You can also see penetration. Another scene shows characters in bed with implied sex. A character is shown on top of a scarecrow and has an orgasm.
There is extreme violence in the film including characters being hacked, chopped up and burned. Another character is stabbed in the head with a pitchfork. A woman kills a goose with a pitchfork. You’ll see bloody scenes as well as some gore. There is a rotting dead pig with maggots all around that is really gross. Characters are eaten by alligators. There are also some jump scares.
Characters smoke and drink alcohol.
Is Pearl Appropriate for Kids Under 17?
Pearl is super trippy, scary, and a bit psychotic and is recommended for mature audiences only. I would not recommend Pearl for kids under 17. As always, parents know their kids best, but the porn scene and the scarecrow scene may have tipped the scales. If teens are a fan of horror flicks, then visually Pearl will be a win for them.
