Wondering if Persuasion is ok for kids? This bland remake of Jane Austen’s book does not have much inappropriate content for kids. It just lacks chemistry and may be of no interest to the tween and teen crowd. Here’s what parents need to know in this Persuasion Parents Guide

Persuasion Parents Guide

Persuasion (2022) Parents Guide

Living with her stuck-up and self-indulgent family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is a nonconforming woman with modern sensibilities. When Frederick Wentworth, the love of her life whom she was persuaded to let go due to lack of money and title, appears back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances. Adapted from the Jane Austen novel.

Why is Persuasion Rated PG?

Persuasion 2022 Age Rating

Is Persuasion Appropriate for Kids Under 10?

If kids are Jane Austen or literary and period drama fans, then I’d recommend Persuasion for kids over 10 years old. If they’re not and you’re gauging their interest, I’d aim a little higher like 12 years old. Younger kids may be bored with little action and mostly conversation.

Persuasion is a relatively clean Jane Austen remake which many families will enjoy. If you’re a Jane Austen purist, then maybe steer clear. This version is more contemporary with Anne narrating her life to us, talking into the camera, and almost having a reality show confessional.

I didn’t mind those things, as I like when directors change it up. However, the worst part was not feeling any romantic chemistry amongst anybody really. Jane Austen is good for sexual tension, but this felt bland. I adore Dakota Johnson, and felt like her friend through the film. There was just something missing.

In a time where women had to hold their tongues, it was refreshing to get some sarcasm and wit from Anne. Persuasion was disjointed with a rushed ending. I didn’t even have time to feel the supposed soul-crushing love between Anne and Wentworth.

While Persuasion may not be the hit Little Women (2019) was, it’s still a good Netflix watch and worth a couple of hours of your time.
