Is The Life of Chuck Appropriate for Teens?
Due to mature themes and language, The Life of Chuck is recommended for ages 16 and older. Once you get past the somewhat gloomy first act, The Life of Chuck leads you to the 2nd act, which is pure magic choreographed in a dance scene. Tom Hiddleston is a joy to watch. The film is a slow burn, though, and may not hold the interest of some younger viewers.
At first, the film seems overly complicated. I had an inner struggle as the weight of the opening act kinda bummed me out. But as the film progressed, I also progressed. I was able to cast some cynicism aside and enjoy the moments of Chuck’s life – the good and the bad. Flanagan does an excellent job of mixing mystery with drama and comedy, while offering something for everyone.
The Life of Chuck is a beautiful story about human connection. Life is worth living, even through the fears and grief. While life can often be a roller coaster, so is The Life of Chuck – an emotional one. This film is worth the ride.
