Is Dog Days Film Kid Friendly? | A Pawtastic Parent Review

As I watched the Dog Days film trailer, my first impression was a cute movie about dogs. After watching it, it’s so much more. However, is the Dog Days film kid friendly? For the most part, yes. This is one of those feel-good summer movies that the whole family can enjoy – and will- with the right mindset.

Thank you, LD Entertainment, for providing travel and accommodations for the Dog Days premiere. All opinions on how much I love dogs and embarrassed myself in front of Ken Marino are my own.

Is Dog Days Film Kid Friendly?

Dog Days is rated PG for rude and suggestive content and language. I’ll break it down for you, so you can decide if the Dog Days film is appropriate for your children and family.

Language in Dog Days Film

I always try to get an accurate profanity count for you. Here’s what I heard. There was at least 1 use of damn, 1 use of hell, 1 pain in the a–, and 2 uses of a–hole. There was also at least 3 uses of ‘Oh my God’ and 1 for the love of God.

Sexual Content and Nudity in Dog Days Film

There was no nudity in Dog Days, and there were a few kisses, but not overly passionate. There are some sexual references in jokes that would most likely go over the heads of small children.

As a parent, I appreciated that there was no bedroom shot of half naked people in bed when there was a scene of an implied affair. The point was still made without the use of nudity in Dog Days.

Violence in Dog Days Film

There is no violence in Dog Days as far as gun violence is concerned or blood. You will see some slapstick physical comedy.

Be aware that there implied references to marijuana and edibles, but as far as I remember, the drug name is not mentioned.

As a whole, the Dog Days film is kid friendly and family friendly! This was important to Director Ken Marino, so families could enjoy watching Dog Days together in this crazy world.

Why Kids Will Like Dog Days Film

Dogs, have I mentioned dogs? How can you resist movies with dogs?!

Also, Dog Days is full of incredible talent including Vanessa Hudgens, Finn Wolfhard, and Nina Dobrev. Families with older kids, tweens, and teens who are fans of Stranger Things, High School Musical, and Vampire Diaries will enjoy seeing their favorites onscreen.

The film is incredibly funny and has jokes that tweens and teens will find humorous. Also: see cute dogs. Is Dog Days film kid friendly? Yes!

At almost 2 hours long, I recommend Dog Days for children ages 8 and up. The length and content may be an issue for younger children. I would still bring my whole family including my 5 girls ages 6 to 13, because the youngest enjoys movies, and I know she can handle the length.

Is Dog Days film kid friendly? It addresses topics such as adoption.

Why Parents Will Like Dog Days Film

I present a parents guide to Dog Days film as a way for parents to make their own decisions on what kid friendly or family friendly means to them. Now here’s what the adults will like about the film!

So while the teens have their own fandoms, there are plenty of actors and actresses for the adult fandoms. Not gonna lie, I’m a huge fan of High School Musical and Stranger Things, too. Also for This is Us, Desperate Housewives, and The Mindy Project fans, Dog Days has Ron Cephas Jones, Eva Longoria, and Adam Pally.

Perhaps the person I was fangirling the most over, though, was director Ken Marino from Veronica Mars, Party Down, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and more. He has a larger-than-life personality, and I knew that would transfer over to Dog Days. The Dog Days film has such wit, that if you’re not paying attention, you could miss the jokes and zingers. My Ken Marino embarrassing story will come when I talk about the Dog Days Premiere, but at least I can laugh at myself.

As we screened Dog Days, tears streamed down my face from the constant laughs, but also from the emotional performances and heart this film has. There are also serious subjects that are great opportunities for parents to discuss with children such as adoption of older children, dog adoption, families, pets, love, the loss of loved ones, and taking care of older people.

Dog Days film opens in theaters August 8th! It's a family friendly film!

Why You Should See Dog Days in Theaters

Dog Days is a hilarious and heartfelt ensemble comedy that follows the lives of multiple dog owners and their beloved fluffy pals around Los Angeles.

Sometimes it’s hard to decide where to spend your hard-earned money, but I believe it’s important to support family-friendly movies. It seems like there is little to watch together anymore without the nonsense and heaviness of the world. I wish the trailers did this film justice, because it’s a delight.

Dog Days feels like a Veronica Mars meets This is Us meets Pixar. Laughs, heart, and storytelling. While the plot sometimes felt predictable, that’s not a bad thing. As the Full House theme song suggests, whatever happened to predictability? It’s a source of comfort, love, and a hand to hold onto.

As a dog mom to a rescue dog, the overall theme of dogs opening their hearts to us really hit home. Dog lovers will appreciate the message of how dogs can change our lives, because they certainly do. This is a movie we all need for our hearts and furry friends.

[…] I do parent movie reviews, because that’s what a lot of people ask me for, AND because having family friendly movies is important to me as the mother of 5. These kids grow up so quickly and have so much stress nowadays, that anything I can share with them that’s positive, funny, and helps them continue being a kid, I seek out! Check out my Dog Days parent review. […]
