Dolphinaris in Cozumel was a fun cruise excursion on our last Disney Cruise. My family and I booked a Disney Cruise Line cruise on the Fantasy in January 2022. Our original itinerary got changed last-minute, so we had to find some new excursions. We tried the Dolphin Swim at Dolphinaris in Cozumel, and we had an amazing time! We were celebrating my daughter’s quinceañera, so we splurged a little bit, but for us, Dolphinaris was worth the money.
Dolphin Swim at Dolphinaris in Cozumel
Are you looking for cruise excursions in Cozumel? Our first cruise we did a beach day, which was fun, but this time we wanted something different. Not everyone in your party has to book the Dolphin Swim to participate. A couple of my kids were nervous about swimming with the Dolphins, and I wanted to book the Dolphin encounter for the younger ones, but there weren’t enough participants. That’s where you get to go to the pool and still interact with the dolphins for a little bit, but not swim with them.
How to Book Your Dolphin Excursion on Disney Cruise Line
I was trying to do some research on the Dolphin excursions in Cozumel and Costa Maya. Without buying a Disney cruise line wifi package, I had limited time. After seeing the facility for the Dolphin swim at the Costa Maya port, I’m glad we chose Dolphinaris.
You can book the Disney Cruise Line app or you can go to the Excursions desk on the ship. Some activities will sell out, so it’s best to make up your mind quickly. We were able to book last-minute, because the ship wasn’t sailing at full capacity.
We also booked our younger daughters and my husband as Observers. So they could observe from the deck on top
Once you book your day and time, you’ll meet your group on the ship and walk out together. We were reminded that we had to come back together as a group or we may not be able to get back on the ship. I’m not sure if that had to do with Covid restrictions.
Then you’ll meet your Dolphinaris guide, and they drive you in shuttles to Dolphinaris which was about a 10-minute ride.
Dolphinaris Cozumel Dolphin Swim and Observer Review
When we arrived, you can purchase a locker rental for your belongings while you swim with the Dolphins. We did not get one, because we had observers, so we were able to stay all out belongings.
You’re then taken to your Pod. This was ours, and we had a good view from the observation deck.
The views are lovely, as this is another pool right next to ours. I think there are about 5 of them, but they are close together and a controlled area.
The participants will also get life jackets, and there’s a bar with free drinks. The kids and I loved the non-alcoholic smoothies. Although the drinks are included with the experience, we did tip the bartenders.
Finally, they called the participants in each group. There were about 10 total, and some were from different ships.
Our guide was cool with us taking pictures and video from the observation desk while the kids participated. However, if everyone in your party is down in the pool, then you’d have to rely on the photographers at the facility for any photos.
You do spend some time greeting the dolphins and petting them. If you were to only pay for the Dolphin Encounter, then you would participate in these activities.
You’ll also get a dolphin kiss!
This picture we paid for and obviously is much better quality than my iPhone from above.
Then you’ll get a chance to be in the pool and get acquainted with the dolphins while they swim around you and can touch them as they pass by.
Each person in the group will then get their opportunity to be in the middle of the pool and grab onto the dolphin fin as it swims by. The dolphin will then pull you to the shore. The dolphins have different personalities, so some are faster than others. A couple of my daughters got a really fast ride with water in their face, while another got a more slow-paced leisurely ride.
Altogether it was about 45 minutes in the water.
After that, you can grab lunch at the restaurant that was also included in our package with Disney Cruise Line. The tip was not included. The food was pretty good! My whole family found something they enjoyed.
Then we had a little bit of time left, so they let us do some snorkeling in a little cove at Dolphinaris. There were a lot of fish, but the water was cold! However, we were also there in January.
When time was up, we met up with out group again, traveled by shuttle to the port and walked back together to the Disney Fantasy.
Is Dolphinaris Dolphin Swim Worth the Price with Disney Cruise Line?
I don’t like to spend money where I don’t have to, but Dolphinaris in Cozumel was well worth it for our family. You can do it cheaper by booking online in advance and taking a taxi to and from the facility from the port. However, for the peace of mind of not worrying about transportation or whether the weather would effect our port excursions, it was worth the extra cost. Plus our guide from Dolphinaris was excellent, and I think that makes a difference.
I recommend bringing cash for tips as there weren’t convenient ATM options around.
The photo packages are expensive, but there are different options you can choose from, and they were willing to negotiate on price. You can look through the pictures before deciding, so you can figure out the cost benefit to you.
We had a fabulous time and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Dolphinaris Dolphin Swim at Cozumel.
