Is Death to 2020 Kid Friendly? Parents Guide

Wondering if Death to 2020 on Netflix is ok for kids? This satirical documentary is rated TV-MA mostly due to language and some mature content, which basically recaps the year 2020. Is Death to 2020 kid friendly? Parents be warned that nobody is off limits from this political mockumentary. Here’s what parents need to know in this Death to 2020 Parents Guide.

Is Death to 2020 kid friendly?

Death to 2020 Parents Guide

Death to 2020 is a comedy(ish) that recaps how awful the year has been with celebrities parodying real-life stereotypical characters. This documentary-style special weaves together some of the world’s most (fictitious) renowned voices with archival footage from 2020 including scenes from the election, protests, news conferences, and more.

Some of these characters include a journalist named Dash Bracket (Samuel L. Jackson), a scientist named Pyrex Flask (Samson Kayo), a billionaire CEO named Bark Multiverse (Kumail Nanjiani), an academic named Tennyson Foss (Hugh Grant) and a millennial influencer/YouTuber named Duke Goolies (Joe Keery). You get the drift.

Parents need to know that Death to 2020 is heavy on language, makes fun of everyone, and is definitely not politically correct. Some may be offended, while others will laugh at what can only be explained as 2020.

Language

There is quote a bit of bad language in Death to 2020, including about 10 uses of sh**, 20 uses of fu**, an a**, and bastards. There are also phrases like pee-pee hole, anus, and heap of balls.

Mature Content

Death to 2020 takes aim at world leaders including Donald Trump and Joe Biden while also showing footage from protests and riots around the country. There is also commentary about Black Lives Matter and the death of George Floyd and police brutality.

Some jokes are sexual in nature, but those will most likely unnoticed by younger kids.

Is Death to 2020 Appropriate for Kids Under 16?

Personally, I’m not a fan of the f-bomb, but if it doesn’t bother you or your kids, then they should be fine. I’d recommend Death to 2020 for kids over 16 due to some of the content.

Death to 2020 has some funny parts, because with the star-studded cast, it’s hard not to laugh at their dead-panned faces or the over-the-top ridiculousness.  However, on the other hand, the jokes have been played out throughout this year. I am just so worn out from the election and the vitriol that came from it, that I really didn’t want to hear anymore about it.

Even though some parts are worth the discussion with teens, especially the important topics, I don’t even think the satire will change the minds of the very people the documentary mocks for their incompetence. Laughter usually is the best medicine, but sometimes the frustration is too much and reminds you of the worst parts of the year.
