Today I’m a Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Galactic Hero, and you can be too. In this guide I’ll share my top tips and tricks for going from Cadet to Galactic Hero in no time.
What is a Galactic Hero on Buzz Lightyear in Magic Kingdom?
To achieve Galactic Hero status on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, you must score 999,999 points. That is the most points you can score, and obviously shows you are capable of saving the galaxy.
How to Get the High Score on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
First, I focus on only the following three targets:
- The orange robot’s inside left hand (first room; 100,000 points)
- The top of the volcano (second room; 25,000 points)
- The bottom, middle of Zurg’s spaceship (third room; 100,000 points)
There may be other high value targets, but I’ve achieved the high score of 999,999 multiple times using only these three targets. Here are some additional tips to help you hit each of these targets as much as possible.
Target #1 (Orange Robot Hand) – 100,000 points per hit
A few things make this target tough to hit:
- It comes up fast as it is in the first room
- Because the ride’s forward motion never stops, the angle of opportunity to hit this target passes quickly
- The robot’s right arm gets in the way and can block your shot
My tips for maximizing this target:
- It is easier to hit this target from the left hand side of your spaceship
- Line your spaceship up angled slightly to the left as you enter the room and focus on the target by moving your gun, instead of your ship
Target #2 (Top of the Volcano) – 25,000 points per hit
What makes this target tough:
- It’s at the back of the room, so it’s always a long way from your spaceship
- The spaceship track makes several turns which constantly changes your angles
- A big mountain blocks your view for part of the room
Tips:
- Don’t get distracted by all of the motion and other targets available.
- Find your laser. This is a general tip, but especially important for this target, because of the long distance to the target. Everyone’s laser looks identical, a small red dot on the wall. Finding yours can be challenging. When I lose sight of mine, I quickly point my gun to a blank space that no one else is targeting. Once I find my dot, I slowly move my laser back toward my intended target, keeping my eye on my dot.
Target #3 (Zurg’s Spaceship) – 100,000 points per hit
What makes this target tough:
- The angle. That’s it. The target is very low, so it cannot be hit from straight on, you need to get it as you enter the room and as you exit.
Tips:
- While both sides of the spaceship can hit the target as you enter and as you exit the room, from the right side, you have a better angle on the entrance, and from the left side, the angle is better as you exit.
- Be sure to go for other targets as you pass through the middle of the room. While other targets in this room are not as valuable, every point counts.
More Tips to Become a Galactic Hero on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
- Find your laser. I know I already mentioned this above under my tips for Target #2, but it is the most important key to scoring big. If you lose sight of your laser and cannot find it, the game/ride becomes frustrating.
- Hold down your trigger. If you hold down the trigger, the laser will shoot as fast as possible. You can continue to pull the trigger for each shot, but your fingers will wear out quickly.
- Once you zero in on a target, try and minimize your spaceship movement. Eventually, you may have to rotate your spaceship, but it’s easier to hit targets with more consistency when you use the movement of your laser vs. movement of your spaceship.
Extra Challenge
Following the tips and tricks above, you’re sure to be a Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin Galactic Hero in no time. The next challenge will be to see if you and your companion can both achieve Galactic hero status in the same ride (I’m still working on achieving the double Galactic Hero).
After you’ve achieved your perfect 999,999 score, don’t forget to pick up your free Galactic Hero sticker, available at the gift shop register as you exit the ride. Sometimes they run out and will make you a button instead!
