Wondering if Bros is ok for teens? This raunchy rom com is great for representation, and not so great for tweens and teens. Here’s what parents need to know in this Bros Parents Guide.
Bros Parents Guide
Universal Pictures proudly presents the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They’re both very busy.
From the ferocious comic mind of Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, 2019’s The Lion King, Difficult People, Impeachment: American Crime Story) and the hitmaking brilliance of filmmakers Nicholas Stoller (the Neighbors films, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Judd Apatow (The King of Staten Island, Trainwreck, The Big Sick), comes Bros, a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about finding sex, love and romance amidst the madness.
Why is Bros Rated R?
Bros is Rated R by the MPAA for strong sexual content, language throughout and some drug use which means some content is not suitable for kids under 17.
Language
There is a lot of profanity in Bros including a**, sh*t, damn, bi*ch, and a plethora of uses of f*ck in all forms. There are also words of Deity used like g-d and g-ddammit and sexual words like di*k, boner, penis, and horny.
Mature Content
There is a lot of graphic sexual content in Bros like oral and anal sex with multiple partners and others watching. Basically anything goes. There is a foursome and some nudity, bare behinds. A lot of shirtless men. You can hear a lot of groaning, see some thrusting, masturbation, etc. There is a lot of kissing, sucking on fingers, and again, a whole lot of sex happening. However, there isn’t a ton of graphic nudity.
Characters drink and use drugs like steroids.
Is Bros Appropriate for Kids Under 17?
Bros is for mature audiences only and not kid friendly. You can expect to see some sex scenes and partial nudity, alcohol and drug use, and lots of crude profanity used by some of the characters. To sum it up, Bros is not appropriate for teens.
Parents know their children best, and I recommend screening a movie first if you have questions whether it’s appropriate for your child. While there are definitely great heartwarming lessons and messages in Bros like love, communication, trust, and finding your community, I’d stick with Love, Simon for tweens and teens.
