The Creator Parents Guide
From writer/director Gareth Edwards comes an epic sci-fi action thriller set amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence. Joshua (John David Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Gemma Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war and mankind.
Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child (Madeleine Yuna Voyles).
Age Rating: Why is The Creator Rated PG-13?
The Creator is Rated PG-13 for bloody images, violence, and language which means some content may not be suitable for kids under 13.
Language in The Creator
There is quite a lot of profanity in The Creator for a PG-13 movie. There are uses of sh*t, bi*ch, a**, damn, dick, and uses of Deity like g-ddamn. There is also a use of f*ck and some uses of unfinished f-words.
Violence: Is The Creator Too Scary for Kids?
There are a lot of war scenes with death and destruction. Villages are bombed and destroyed. A nuclear explosion kills 1 million people in L.A. A parent and child get separated which can be quite emotional. A character’s life support is turned off.
There are uses of weapons, bombs, and lots of explosions. The subject matter is very heavy.
Mature Content: Is The Creator OK for Kids?
Characters can be seen drinking alcohol and smoking in the background.
Characters can be seen in bed together and kissing. Nothing too risque.
Some AI are seen dancing provocatively.

Is The Creator Appropriate for Kids Under 13?
With a runtime of 2 hours and 13 minutes, The Creator is probably too long for kids and the subject matter too mature. You can expect warlike scenes with killings and emotional trauma as well as strong language used by characters. To sum it up, The Creator is kid friendly for ages 12 and older. Or younger, more mature kids who enjoy sci-fi movies will likely be fans.
Director Gareth Edwards also directed my favorite Star Wars movie – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. I was hoping for that same level of human emotion and spirit and connectivity, but it didn’t quite get there.
The Creator definitely has its moments, and is certainly worth a watch with its outstanding visuals. It tries really hard to make me believe the bond between humans and AI. But truthfully I felt more in Free Guy.
The efforts are there and hopefully this isn’t a glimpse into the future.
