Wondering if The Unforgivable on Netflix is ok for teens? The Unforgivable is a depressing and dreary film that is not kid friendly. While Bullock is passionate in her role, even she can’t save the film. Here’s what parents need to know in The Unforgivable Parents Guide.

The Unforgivable Parents Guide
Released from prison after serving a sentence for killing a cop, Ruth Slater (Sandra Bullock) re-enters a society that refuses to forgive her past. The sons of the man she killed is out and they want revenge. Facing severe judgment from the place she once called home, her only hope for redemption is finding the estranged younger sister she was forced to leave behind.
Why is The Unforgivable Rated R?
The Unforgivable is rated R for language and violence which means it may not be suitable for viewers under age 17.
Language
There is an excessive amount of profanity in The Unforgivable including many uses of sh*t, a**, damn, bit*h, and over 20 uses of fu*k. There are also words of Deity used like Jesus and crude language.
Mature Content
There is a sex scene that shows a woman on top of a man and you can see her bare back. A woman is in the shower and you can also see her back.
A man is seen smoking. Characters drink alcohol.
There is violence including flashbacks of killings and beatings which are hard to watch. There is mention of suicide. A character dies and the bloody body is shown.
Also mature content and themes include revenge and the prison system and the challenges former inmates face trying to go back to a somewhat normal life and become a part of society again.

Is The Unforgivable Appropriate for Teens?
The Unforgivable has so much talent that is underutilized. Is the plot interesting enough to satisfy teens or even adults? The story is interesting, but Bullock’s character is so unlikeable that it’s hard to root for her. And the story is told in so many flashbacks, it gets old and is slow-moving.
Watch it if you have nothing else to watch, but I’d rather check out the Christmas movies.
