If you’re looking for an upbeat, holiday movie, this isn’t it. Parents need to know that The Midnight Sky is pretty tragic and can be confusing and slow for kids.

There is some language in The Midnight Sky like sh–, b-tch, one use of f–k, and damn.
Mature Content
Characters drink alcohol.
Many characters are in peril or sad and depressed, including the loss of a child. During a time like a global pandemic, this may be not be the most uplifting choice of films.
There are a lot of dead bodies, bloody images, and an accident in space. There is also a scene with a downed airplane. You see a lot of vomiting.
There is no sexual content.
Is The Midnight Sky Appropriate for Kids Under 14?
There is much to talk about with The Midnight Sky as a family and with teens, but the conversation will be heavy. However, there is also a lot to learn about the human spirit and being resilient. Unless kids are interested in space or catastrophes, I’d skip this one. Some may find it boring as it does lag in places.
While the imagery is impressive and the overall message to take better care of Earth is important, this film was just so bleak. Maybe table this when we don’t already feel like the world is ending.
