The Marvels is a standalone film in the MCU, but there are a few essential Marvel movies and shows to watch before you see The Marvels. I had a few ideas which movies would be best to watch, but now after having seen The Marvels, I’ve updated my list. Here’s what you should watch before The Marvels.
What You Should Watch Before Seeing The Marvels
To really understand what’s going on in The Marvels, obviously you must watch Captain Marvel. The Marvels takes place after Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Ms. Marvel, and Secret Invasion. That doesn’t necessarily mean you need to watch all of those before you watch The Marvels, however, it’s helpful.
If you’re going to see The Marvels, I recommend at least watching:
- Captain Marvel
- Avengers: Endgame
- Ms. Marvel
The Marvels consist of a trio of heroes – Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel), Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), and Captain Monica Rambeau. Captain Marvel will introduce you to Carol, young Monica, and Goose, and Ms. Marvel (on Disney+) will introduce you to Kamala. WandaVision will show you Monica after the blip and also show you how she gets her powers. I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to watch WandaVision, but if you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out.
Also, if you have extra time, then throw in Secret Invasion on Disney+. Again, I don’t think it’s necessary to get the gist of the film, but I recommend the show if you want to dig deeper, and especially if you’ve watched all the Marvel movies in order. Nick Fury went through some things after Endgame.
Read The Marvels Parents Guide for age recommendations and age rating breakdown. This film was a lot of fun and is family friendly. Happy Marvel movie watching!
