Each year comes with its ups and downs, its wins and its losses. 2017 was no different in that regard. However, one thing I did learn is that self care is important. In 2018 I am saying yes to self care and saying yes more in general. I’m saying yes to me, which in turn helps other people. You know the saying, if mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy? Well that’s hashtag truth.
Self Care for Moms is Not Selfish
I think we’re under the misconception that taking care of ourselves is selfish. There’s guilt associated when moms, women, and people put themselves first. That’s not selfish, that’s having the knowledge that in order for you to accomplish tasks and take what life throws at you, you need to be the best you.
In 2017, I added a lot to my plate. Not only was I trying to increase my blog work, but all my children decided they wanted to play sports. How could this be a bad idea? Oh yeah, I have 5 children who all need to be in different places at different times. Between practices and games on the weekends, I was running on low. Do you know how long softball games are? FOREVER! That’s how long.
I also learned to accept help. I rely a lot on my parents, because it takes a village, right? But I had to accept help from friends neighbors and teammates to help transport and shuttle my kids from point A to point B. I was humbled, and I was grateful.
Moments of Yes
That’s why 2018 is my Year of Yes with my Moments of Yes. My Moment of Yes is positivity. For my self-care, I need good mental health to tackle on taking care of 5 children, running a household, working from home, building a business, and taking care of myself physically. In gratitude comes joy, so every day in 2018, I will send a positive message to someone. This may be through a comment on a blog, an email, a message on Facebook, a written note, a letter, a text or whatever I think of.
I want to invite positivity into my life, and perhaps by bringing a smile to someone else, the ripple effect will happen. More people will know they are loved and hence, there will be more kindness in the world.
This was inspired by Well Yes!® Soups. Well Yes! is a line of soups made with nutritious ingredients, like chicken meat with no antibiotics, sweet potatoes, kale, and quinoa. Saying Yes to Self Care
Here are things I will be saying yes to for my self care.
Yes to eating on the couch and watching TV, because I want to.
Yes to reading more.
Yes to manicures just for fun.
Yes to wiser food choices, like Well Yes! Soup instead of 5 donuts. Well at least once a week.
Yes to putting down my phone.
Yes to more dates with my husband that involve Chris Evans movies.
Yes to counting jumping on the trampoline with my kids as exercise.
Yes to longer showers.
Yes to girlfriend getaways.
Yes to happy.
Women, I know it’s hard to put ourselves first (and if it’s not, I salute you). But it’s time. We’re all over this.

I agree that moms sometimes get caught up in their kids ,jobs and husband and lose sight of what makes them happy and fulfilled. It is great to step back and enjoy life.
