Where have I been? I missed the Quantico TV show hoopla from Seasons 1 & 2! I wish I had been on that train, because after watching the first episode of Season 3, I’m hooked. Did you know that the Quantico show Season 3 is a reboot? We had the opportunity to interview Quantico Executive Producer & Showrunner Michael Seitzman and series regular, Marlee Matlin. Yes, that is Academy Award winning actress Marlee Matlin. Here’s what’s new and why you should tune in.
Thank you, Disney, for inviting me to the #InfinityWarEvent and providing travel and accommodations. All opinions about how much I want to work at Quantico now, because of this show are my own.
Look at the Ability
Marlee Matlin joins the cast as a series regular of Quantico. If you didn’t know Marlee Matlin has won an Academy Award, is incredible charismatic, and is deaf. When the interview started Michael Seitzman made an observation that when Marlee first started signing, we all would look at her interpreter, Jack, when he was speaking. However as time went on, we no longer looked at the interpreter, but we focused on Marlee. And he was right!
Marlee: “And, you know what, I have to give Michael credit because he’s one of the few people in Hollywood who understands how to use someone like myself, who understands not to dwell on the disability, not to dwell, I mean the “dis” in ability, but to look at the ability.”
Soon after watching Jack, I found myself drawn to Marlee. I could still hear Jack saying the words, but I knew it was Marlee who was speaking.
Michael: “You start to change the way that you interact. And so that also happens on set. So it changes the way that we have to think about it that this is real. It sounds like it’s an awkward thing to talk about. But it’s not an awkward thing to talk about. This is a real thing.”
When I watched the season premiere of episode 1, I thought how natural everything felt. Well that’s their job. Decisions such as moving subtitles up higher, so you can focus on Marlee instead of just reading makes the audience involved.
This is different than other shows I’ve seen. And that’s a nod to Marlee, Michael, and the other cast members. Imagine how much better this world would be if we all focused on the ability. When you do, you get Academy Award winning actresses on your show 😉
Quantico TV Show Cast
Don’t worry if you’re an old fan or a new fan. There’s something for everyone.
The Quantico TV Show cast includes Priyanka Chopra, Jake McLaughlin,Blair Underwood,Johanna Braddy, Russell Tovey, Alan Powell, and Marlee Matlin.
Michael: “You want to invite new audiences into the show as well as serve the loyal audience. So, we are giving the new audience and the loyal audience an unknown backstory that they can both share, as opposed to the new audience not being able to share the two years prior. Now, they can share the three years in between.”
I already feel connected to the characters after one episode!
Frustrating the Audience on Quantico
The more I heard Michael and Marlee speak about what’s to come, the more I thought, oh yeah this is gonna be good…and bad.
Michael: “I think people that watch television or movie don’t realize that the primary job of the writer and the filmmaker is to frustrate the audience, not to give the audience what they want. To put it another way, the audience always wants their favorite couple to get together. And we sit in a room. The bulk of our time is spent trying to figure out ways to keep them apart.”
I admit, I’m usually the one who’s rooting for the happily ever after for my favorite characters. But I know the frustration keeps me coming back. I get it, but give me the riding off in the sunset, dang it!

Quantico Season 3
How would Michael and Marlee describe the reboot of Quantico? Michael said, “I think in some ways it feels a little bit like a throwback to some spy movie that we all know. But there’s a whole genre that’s kind of written on our bones ’cause we’ve all watched movies and television for so many years.” Marlee said, “It feels like the old series Mission Impossible.”
They both promise amazing things to come and things that have challenged Marlee like never before in her career. I’m so excited to be a new fan and of course, to binge the first two seasons. I love a good binge watch, but it’s not necessary to start from the beginning.
If you haven’t seen the first episode of Quantico show on ABC, oh my gosh, watch it!! It packs you with punches from the get go. I was even like daaaaaaaang. The next episode, “Fear and Flesh,” airs tonight, May 3rd at 10pm ET.
In tracking down the origin of a deadly strain of tuberculosis threatening Americans, Agent Ryan Booth must go undercover and infiltrate a white supremacist organization. An assignment that threatens the life of another member of the team.
