Oh the mixed emotions of going back to school. For some it’s a time of jubilee for the return of a routine and kids in school. For others it’s a time of mourning of lazy wake-up calls and a break from the hustle. This year, I have 5 children going to school, and I’m still in the mourning stage, but I need to snap out of it, because things need to get done, like back-to-school shopping. I have a confession. I really like it. Thanks to Sears for sponsoring this post and getting this mom back in gear to get these kids ready for school!
Some of my friends praise online shopping, because they don’t like going to the stores. They’d rather go to the dentist, they say. Whaaat? So then I cave to the peer pressure. Yeah, shopping, ew. Yuck. But inside, I’m like no, the mall is my friend! I love those fluorescent lights, full length mirrors, racks of clothes, and the thrill of a good deal.
Why I Like Back-to-School Shopping
When I was growing up, I was always nervous about starting a new school year. I was excited to see my friends but still cautious about what the year was going to bring. One thing that was always a back-to-school tradition in my house was getting a new backpack. New backpack, new memories, right? So that’s a tradition I continue with my own children.
Also, back-to-school shopping is a time for bonding with my girls. When you have a large family, it’s hard to find that one-on-one time. So I usually take one or two at a time, because shopping with 5 kids is crazy town. That would throw me into an adult tantrum, and I’m pretty sure it has. It wasn’t pretty. Thus, we’ve decreased the numbers and increased the enjoyment.
Back-to-School Shopping Essentials
Two of my girls and I headed to Sears for some back-to-school shopping essentials. The goal was at least a backpack, shoes, a first day of school outfit, and a comfortable active wear outfit. Jackpot! We found all of that and more! Remember when I said I love the thrill of a good deal? Well Sears came through for me! I give my girls a budget, so they can choose what they want, yet they have to do the math and know they can’t just go on an all-out shopping spree. I still have 3 other children to shop for. They love the independence, and I love that they have to be accountable for their decisions.
Here are some of their selections!
My girl loves her some Star Wars shoes! I wish they had my size.
Save Money Back-to-School Shopping
I forgot there was a promotion to get an extra 20% off when you spend $50 or more thru 8/12 at Sears. I was so proud of the girls for staying under budget and at the end when the cashier applied the 20% off, they gave me the side-eye because they had more money to spend. Whoops, but hey, that was a steal! We purchased everything above including all the shoes, outfits, and backpacks for less than $150! The last week of August, bring the cool to school and get an extra 25% off a purchase of $40 or more.
If you’re not a store shopper (yes, friends, I’m looking at you), don’t worry. Check out the Sears Back to School Catalog online and shop away from the comforts of your home. Sears has got all of us covered.
My girls had such a fun time together goofing around and trying on all the things! We laughed, had fashion shows in the dressing room, and talked about what they were looking forward to the most when heading back to school. The first day of school is important to them, and now they have all the gear they need to be ready and confident to have the best year ever. Thank you, Sears, for helping us start the year off in style at prices that keep this mama happy.
