DIY No-Sew Star Wars Blanket for Dogs

With May the 4th coming up, an important day for any Star Wars fan, help your pets celebrate the fun, too! The whole family can help make this easy No-Sew Star Wars Blanket for dogs. With our extended time at home, we’re having fun being crafty and trying new things. I don’t want Darth Vader to find my lack of DIY skills disturbing.

Our dog Tucker’s middle name is Darth for Darth Vader. Or sometimes I’ll just call him Vader when he’s in a particular mood. Our family loves Star Wars, so with his coloring and stoic demeanor, it was a natural fit.

My family and I like to do family costumes for Halloween and Star Wars was a theme one year.

Tucker and my oldest daughter dueled it out since they both wanted to dress up as Darth Vader. It ended in a tie, so they agreed they could both be him. You can never have too many Vaders.

And like the rest of my family, I think Tucker threw me some side-eye. The idea of a family Halloween costume sometimes takes a little getting used to. Fits right in with my girls!

Tucker is a Rescue Dog and can sometimes be a little skiddish. He loves soft things like blankets, and they make him feel comfortable and protected. He often will drag his blankets to the sunlight, lie down and sunbathe.

This Star Wars No-Sew Fleece Blanket is one of his favorites, and the kids had fun help making it for him!

How to Make a No Sew Blanket for Pets

I wanted two different sides for this Star Wars blanket – one for the light side and one for the dark side of Star Wars. You never know which mood will strike you. So BB-8 on one side and Darth Vader on the other side.

I purchased 1 yard of each fabric, and laid them on top of each other. One yard is too big for a dog of Tucker’s size, but I wanted to make an extra to donate to a dog shelter. So really, to make this blanket, I used a 1/2 yard of each fabric.

Next, using sharp scissors, I cut 3-inch deep cuts all around the fabric about 1 inch apart. The great thing with these blankets is that it’s easy to hide imperfections, so I just use a ruler as I cut.

Then tie the two pieces of fleece (in my case BB-8 and Darth Vader) together in double knots.

Even your kids can help you! My girls were excited to take part in this project. It doesn’t take too long, and it’s a fun project that the whole family can make. If you want bigger Star Wars blankets for humans, then just purchase more fabric!

DIY No-Sew Star Wars Blanket for DogsNow you’ve made a warm, personal blanket for your favorite dog! Choose any fabric and cater it to your dog’s personality.

You can also make these blankets to donate to different shelters or rescue organizations. Call and ask what they need. Choose your favorite fandom and make a project for a good cause.

May the 4th be with you!

Oh my goodness, so cute. I love this. Not sure my 80 pound boxer would go for it, but I would be willing to try. LOL
