DIY Alice in Wonderland Costume Ideas

Don’t be late for a very important date – Halloween! We do a family Halloween costume theme each year and our Alice in Wonderland costume ideas were some of our favorites. We did a mixture of DIY Alice in Wonderland Costumes versus store-bought Alice in Wonderland costumes, and it saved a lot of time. Also, if you need a quick DIY couples Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum costume, I’ve got you covered.

Alice in Wonderland Costume Ideas

We did our Alice in Wonderland Costume theme when we only had 3 children. Here are the players.

Me- Tweedle Dee

Husband- Tweedle Dum

Daughter #1- Mad Hatter

Daughter #2- Alice in Wonderland

Daughter #3- Cheshire Cat

The photos are not as high quality since this was a long time ago before I had a cell phone and a mirrorless camera to do my fancy photo taking for me. But you get the gist.

Cheshire Cat Costume

All my daughters costumes were purchased. I usually use sites like Halloween Express, Target, Spirit of Halloween, Disney Store, and Amazon. There are a lot of options.

I’m pretty sure I went with this theme, because the Cheshire Cat and Mad Hatter costumes were on clearance. Then I built around those two costumes for the rest of the idea. Plus we were headed to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Walt Disney World.

They don’t have this specific costume, there are darling Cheshire Cat costumes for girls.

Adding accessories can make costumes stand out, too. I bought striped tights for Mad Hatter just to make it crazier, and I made sure Alice in Wonderland was wearing Mary Jane shoes. When we had to switch to warm weather costumes for Florida, I just removed tights and added cute socks.

Store bought Alice in Wonderland family Halloween costumes for the win!

There are tons of Alice in Wonderland costume options. This costume is one of my favorites, because of its simplicity, and Amazon Prime shipping 😉

Girl Mad Hatter Costume

My daughter wanted something a little more girly than a traditional Mad Hatter costume, so I bought her this girl Mad Hatter costume. This would be super easy to DIY, tough. You just need a hat, jacket, and then some mismatched clothes. The tall hat you’d be able to find at a party store and then tie a wide ribbon around it and make a 10/6 sign.

Some of my favorite costumes are DIY. They don’t have to be perfect. I use simple things, because I do not have sewing skills. My husband and I bought red shorts and yellow t-shirts. We printed Tweedle graphics on with iron on dark t-shirt transfer paper, and made bows and collars out of felt, which you can get really cheap at the fabric store.

Next, I glued the bow to the collar and then used velcro dots to fasten the collar over the t-shirt. We purchased red hats (my go-to cheap hats are found at Hobby Lobby or Michaels) and used a pipe cleaner and hot glued it to the top. We cut out the little flag shape out of craft foam. Craft foam saves the day in many circumstances!

Our second go around for Bus Stop Costumes, we just used plain yellow t-shirts, and I liked that better.

These DIY Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Sum costumes are super easy for couples, running costumes, or a big group theme for Alice in Wonderland costumes.

I’m thankful all my children still enjoy having a family Halloween costume theme. They like to give their input and help find the pieces for their costumes. I love the memories and cherish the family time. Family and group themes are not hard to do.
