My family has been on vacation the past week, so I missed the kickoff to #LIGHTtheWORLD. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints reminds us that Jesus Christ is the light of the world, especially during the Christmas season. Every day leading up to Christmas in December, they have created an advent calendar that will focus on a different Christlike behavior and provide suggestions for ways we can follow His example. Let’s light the world together.
Light the World
I love this initiative, because I feel like there’s a lot of anger in the country right now. This is a way to stop and serve others. Service always makes me happy, because I’m doing things for other people and not thinking of myself. Usually that gets shifted to the bottom of my list since I feel so busy all of the time.
My family has been served all week on Disney Cruise Line. The hardworking crew has literally done everything for us. While, yes, it may be their job, I loved seeing the twinkle in their eyes as they made one of my girls laugh or saw smiles on our faces. They knew at that moment that they were making a difference in our family’s lives. It’s amazing how rewarding bringing joy to others feels.
You don’t have to be a member of this church or any church, you don’t have to believe in Jesus Christ, and you don’t have to be religious at all to participate. This is about being the light, being the change, being the happy for the world. The only way things will change are with us. Check out the video below.
Service does not have to be some grand gesture. Simple acts of service like smiling at someone in the store, letting someone in front of us in line, and being kind to others sometimes make the most impact. I wish I could emphasis being kind a million times. Let’s teach our kids to not be bullies, and the best way to do that is by being the example.
Let’s teach our children to sit next to someone new at lunch or pay someone a compliment. Let’s forgive someone. Let something go. Make someone laugh. Watch what you say and what you type. Think before posting. Those are simple things that make a big difference.
Join me and my family as we light the world every day in December. Let’s light it up, friends! We have some catch up to do, but we’re up for the challenge. If you need some ideas, follow the hashtag #LIGHTtheWORLD on social media, and you can see what people around the world are doing!
